'16 & Pregnant' star Autumn Crittendon's cause of death revealed after her death at 27

Police have disclosed 16 & Pregnant star Autumn Crittendon's cause of death.

The 27-year-old was found dead on July 20 after the Henrico County Police Department was called to a home in the 700 block of Chinkapin Court in Sandston, Virginia, after a report of a medical emergency.

"Once on scene, officers and fire personnel located an adult female unresponsive within the residence," a statement from the police department read at the time, per Entertainment Weekly.

Authorities confirmed that paramedics attempted “life-saving measures” but were "not effective," according to Page Six.

Tragically, Crittendon, also known as Autumn Oxley, was pronounced deceased at the scene, and police opened an investigation into the reality TV star's manner of death.

On Tuesday (October 22), a spokesperson from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the Virginia Department of Health officially ruled Crittendon's death as an accident, according to PEOPLE.

They also confirmed that the late mom passed away from toxicity from fentanyl and para/meta-fluorofentanyl.

The 16 & Pregnant star appeared on Season 5 of the MTV series that followed her life while pregnant with her oldest son Drake. She went on to have two more children.

After learning of her death, MTV’s Teen Mom franchise released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) paying tribute to Crittendon.

“We are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Autumn Crittendon,” the post read. “Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this difficult time.”

Many fans also shared their condolences in the comment section. "Rip Autumn! You have gone too soon! May God give your babies, family, and friends the strength to get through the coming days!" one user wrote.

"Rest in Love Autumn Crittenden and prayers in the air for the family, friends, all of Teen Mom," a second user added.

Crittendon's sister, Misty, changed her profile picture on Facebook to a sweet snap of the pair as children, followed by the hashtags: “#JusticeforAutumn #CrittendonStrong."

She also pledged to her late sister in a since-deleted tribute post on Facebook that she would continue to look after her children and "love life," as cited by Starcasm.

“I promise you I will love life in your honor. These babies will always know how much you love them, how amazing you are, how special you are, how much you sacrificed and overcame for them, everything and nothing short of it," she added.

According to PEOPLE, Crittendon's mother-in-law, Tiffany Oxley, also penned a heartbreaking message to her Facebook account, which read: “I miss you. God has gained another angel way too soon. I love you."
