A 43-year-old college freshman has been arrested twice within his first week at university, leaving social media asking the same question.
Delos Anthony Charles Moore had only recently moved into student accommodation at Cal Poly Humboldt, where he was studying forestry, when he was arrested on August 31.
According to the Lost Coast Outpost, Moore was detained following an alleged sexual assault attack at the university, where he had been living in Hinarr Hu Moulik halls, before then allegedly returning to campus despite being ordered to stay away.
His arrest came just days after beginning his studies, with his return to university following years spent in prison.
Moore was subsequently arrested for a second time after allegedly going back to the university despite a court order prohibiting him from being on campus.
He was later released on $35,000 bond.
The case has drawn attention in part because of Moore's criminal history, which dates back to a 2007 robbery in Gardena, California.
Moore previously spoke about the incident during a 2024 podcast appearance, saying he and two other men robbed both a cigarette store and a water store.
He said the owner of one of the businesses was tied up and punched after attempting to escape.
Moore was initially handed a two-year prison sentence, but received an additional 10 years as a result of gang-related sentencing enhancements.
He went on to serve time at several California prisons, including High Desert State Prison, Kern Valley State Prison and the California Institute for Men.
His time behind bars was extended again after prison officials discovered narcotics concealed inside a condom that his girlfriend had brought during a prison visit, according to the Lost Coast Outpost.
Despite his lengthy incarceration, Moore also pursued an education while in prison.
He earned an associate degree in sociology from Lake Tahoe Community College before eventually being released in 2021 after receiving credits for good behaviour.
Following his release, Moore moved into the entertainment industry and worked as a production assistant on commercials and television projects.
He also received assistance from an organisation supporting formerly incarcerated people with finding employment.
More recently, Moore was awarded a scholarship to attend Cal Poly Humboldt — less than three months before his latest arrest.
The university scholarship appeared to mark another stage in his efforts to rebuild his life after prison.
Moore has previously spoken openly about his experiences behind bars, including his involvement in fights and his struggles with drugs.
Now, following two arrests in the space of just one week at his new university, questions are being raised over what led to the latest allegations and what will happen next.
