An Amazon delivery driver is being praised by the residents of one Houston neighborhood after he helped rescue a baby that was abandoned after a carjacking.
As per ABC11, police said that they received reports of a stolen car and kidnapping in the Sunnyside neighborhood on Monday (January 25).
A surveillance camera had, at the time, captured a man leaving a newborn baby in a carrier at the side of the road some miles away from where the incident took place.
Amazon driver Juan Carlos Flores said that he knew something wasn't right when he saw the baby in the carrier.
"When I saw that baby, I wanted to cry," he said.
Listen to Flores recount the heartbreaking incident in the video below:After discovering the child, he went to the nearest neighbor to ask why they were outside alone.
In an interview with KTRK-TV, the anonymous homeowner said that when he went outside and saw the baby on the ground, he immediately took the car seat indoors and called the police.
"How could someone have a heart to leave the child on the side of the road?" Flores said.
After discovering the baby, Flores returned to work and saw police searching for the baby in the nearby area. When he saw the police, he brought them to the neighbor's house where the baby was being cared for.
Minutes later, additional officers appeared at the scene and reunited the child with the mother.
The baby was reportedly dropped off in the area by a man who was suspected of carjacking.
Meanwhile, on the subject of delivery drivers, residents lined the streets to thank this UPS delivery driver for his work during the pandemic.
Anthony Gaskin, a UPS delivery driver, ventured out during the pandemic to carry on with his work, marking him out as something of a local hero to the Hallsley neighborhood.
You can watch the incredibly moving scene right here:"Through COVID, Anthony has continued working, delivering packages at our doors, record numbers of them, over 180 times to date," local resident Patty Friedman told WTVR in an email.
"I wanted to thank him personally for how much he helped me feel welcome when I moved in during a pandemic. It was terribly lonely and he was always the highlight of my day. Mentioning this to a few people and the response I got was all I needed to know I was not alone."
