American Idol star arrested after allegedly killing his wife in 'staged burglary' - harrowing bodycam footage has emerged
Body camera footage, which was made public by Ohio state officials, offers new insight into what happened straight after the fatal shooting of Ashley Flynn, the wife of former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn.
Ashley, 37, was found shot to death inside the Tipp City, Ohio, home she shared with Flynn. Authorities said Caleb initially made a 911 call, claiming someone had broken into the couple’s house. However, three days later, he was arrested in connection with her death.
What does the footage show?
The footage, released March 2 by the Tipp City Police Department, shows Flynn appearing distraught as officers respond. He can be heard sobbing loudly, struggling to breathe, and at one point vomiting.
In one blurred clip recorded inside the home, Caleb repeatedly cries out “oh my God” and tearfully asks an officer, “Is she gone?” He is also heard calling his mother to tell her what happened. “Ashley’s dead,” he says several times, breaking down and wailing, “Mommy, she’s gone.”
Breathing heavily, he adds, “I don’t know what to do,” before ending the call. Moments later, the American Idol alumnus says he feels sick and begins to vomit.
Later in the video, Caleb walks outside to meet a relative arriving at the scene. He stumbles and falls as he steps out of the house, then gets up and embraces the woman, who is visibly shaken and crying. Identified in the footage as the children’s grandmother, she listens as Caleb tells her, “The girls don’t know,” prompting her to break down as well.
According to previously released 911 audio and the bodycam footage, the couple’s two daughters were inside the home at the time of the shooting. A GoFundMe page has since been created to support the children.
Have charges been brought against Flynn?
Court records show Caleb has been charged with the murder of his wife, Ashley, with gunshot wounds to the head from the fatal shooting being attributed as the cause of death.
Additionally, Flynn has also been charged with two counts of felonious assault, and two counts of tampering with evidence. He has entered a plea of not guilty, having strenuously denied the charges brought against him, with Flynn’s defense attorney filed a waiver for a prompt trial and for time requirements regarding the preliminary hearing.
According to reports, the singer has been placed in solitary confinement, with his trial date yet to be set.
