President Trump has said that he will not participate in a virtual debate with Democratic nominee Joe Biden, during a television interview with Maria Bartiromo on the Fox Business Network.
This revelation comes shortly after the Commission on Presidential Debates made the announcement that the second debate would be conducted virtually. The Washington Post reports that the decision was made “to protect the health and safety of all involved.”
“I’m not going to waste my time on a virtual debate. That’s not what debating is all about,” Trump is reported to have said, per the Washington Post.
ABC reports that the Biden campaign confirmed on Thursday morning that the former vice president would take part in the virtual debate.
"Vice President Biden looks forward to speaking directly to the American people and comparing his plan for bringing the country together and building back better with Donald Trump's failed leadership on the coronavirus that has thrown the strong economy he inherited into the worst downturn since the Great Depression," the Biden campaign said in a statement provided to ABC news.
