Chilling new footage emerges of Mexico amusement park ride where 18-year-old woman fell to her death
Disturbing footage has emerged showing the moment an 18-year-old woman fell from an amusement park ride in Mexico, sustaining what would consequently be fatal injuries during a local festival.
Gabriela Rodríguez Tezoco was riding an attraction known as “The Pendulum” at the Cabo San Lucas Traditional Festival on Tuesday, October 20, when the tragic incident occurred, according to local news outlet Expreso.
The chilling footage captured on ride
Emergency crews and Mexican Red Cross personnel rushed to help the teenager after she fell from the ride, before she was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical assessment, but later died from her injuries, the local government of Los Cabos confirmed on Wednesday, October 21.
Video of the incident, filmed from the opposite side of the attraction, appears to capture the terrifying moment Rodríguez Tezoco fell, with the footage visibly showing her safety restraint failing before she was then tossed from the ride, with onlookers' screams heard following the horrific fall.
With the circumstances surrounding the incident remaining under investigation by local authorities and law enforcement, Los Cabos Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez issued a heartfelt statement expressing his condolences to the teenager's loved ones and calling on the community to support her family.
“These festivities remind us of who we are, where we come from, and what we are capable of when we are united. Today, with the same spirit with which we unite to celebrate, we must unite to support the family of Gabriela. It could have been any of us. They are not alone,” he said, according to the English translation of the announcement shared on Facebook.
Following the tragedy, the mayor confirmed that the ride had been suspended while an investigation was launched into the attraction and the park's other rides.
The investigation is being led by the General Prosecutor's Office of the State of Baja California Sur, which is working closely with relevant authorities to establish what caused the fatal fall, with officials in Los Cabos also pledging to support the bereaved family throughout the process.
“The Municipality of Los Cabos will fully cooperate and provide all necessary support to the family,” a translated version of the local authority's statement said.
A third theme park death in just two weeks
This comes just two weeks after another devastating incident at America’s amusement park, Six Flags, where Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem fell to his death from the Goliath rollercoaster after safety restraints failed to protect him.
The 42-year-old was found dead under the ride, having hit several people during his fall, leaving the amusement park facing questions over its safety protocol, but the park has announced the introduction of seatbelts after reopening the ride on Saturday.
