Today, millions were left devastated when a powerful earthquake rocked parts of Indonesia, reportedly leaving at least three people dead. The quake struck the country's popular tourist island of Lombok on Sunday, triggering a brief tsunami warning and shaking neighbouring island and Indonesian province Bali.
The natural disaster is likely to have affected hundreds of thousands of people, this including model Chrissy Teigen, her husband John Legend and their two children, who were enjoying a family holiday in Bali when it hit.
Thankfully, a representative for John Legend confirmed that the family were safe today. However, that didn't stop fans from panicking when Chrissy decided to live tweet her experience.
While followers already knew that the famous couple and their family were vacationing in Bali, they first became aware that the earthquake had affected them when the cookbook author tweeted saying "oh my god". Soon after, she followed it up with another post that read "Bail. Trembling. So long", and a third that read "phewwwwww".
Shortly after, concerned fans received more information when the mother-of-two posted again, saying: "Oh man. We are on stilts. It felt like a ride. 15 solid seconds of 'hooooooly shit this is happening'". The model later found time to throw in some humour, putting "I very calmly walked outside saying clutching baby saying “I’m naked. I’m naked. I’m naked.” like a naked zombie".
However, her terror became obvious once again when she wrote "So many aftershocks" and followed it with "im either still trembling or these little quakes won’t stop IM TRYING TO BE NORMAL HERE".
Predictably, upon reading her updates, Chrissy's fans were sent into a panic, flooding the comment section with concerns for the family's wellbeing and telling Chrissy to catch a plane home immediately. "I speak for all of Twitter when I say 'I want to hug you right now!'" wrote Twitter user @PaulaInTulsaOK.
She was joined by fellow social media user @SageHillfarms who put "I don't think I could be calm after experiencing what you just did. It's okay to be freaked out," as well as @AlyssaRamos who was also in Bali at the time: "I’m here in Bali too and keep feeling the aftershocks! First time I’ve seen a whole structure sway, so scary Hope you and yours are ok".
In addition, the model's followers praised her for keeping a sense of humour in a terrifying situation. Their compliments followed a tweet from Chrissy that joked that she couldn't end things with seeing a news story about her crotch tweet. "great a news story just talked about my crotch tweet in the middle of earthquake tweets I gotta delete it, that can’t be how I go down," she wrote.
The 7.0 earthquake follows another quake which had a magnitude of 6.4 and struck Lombok on July 29, killing 16 people. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the people who tragically lost their lives.
Stay safe, Chrissy, and everyone else who is out there.
