A kindergarten teacher at a Christian school has admitted to engaging in a sexual relationship with a female student.
The encounters occurred on school grounds, during school trips, and at the student’s home during sleepovers, according to reports.
Torrie Lemon, 24, pleaded guilty on Thursday in Indiana to one count of child seduction, a Level 5 felony. She was sentenced to 40 days in jail, followed by nearly four years of probation.
Lemon, who has since been dismissed from Colonial Christian School, had already spent about a month in custody while awaiting trial.
She is also scheduled to be sentenced separately on Friday for two additional child seduction charges connected to the same case in a neighboring county near Indianapolis.
The relationship was uncovered during an April school trip to South Carolina after another student saw messages on the girl’s phone.
In those messages, Lemon referenced “climaxing” and “laying in bed” with the 17-year-old student, according to court records. She also wrote: “I love you more than I can describe. I love my girl,” and: “Thank you for an amazing night and morning.”
After the messages were discovered, Lemon was sent home from the trip and later admitted the situation to police, telling investigators: “I was having an inappropriate relationship with a student from our school.”
According to authorities, the student said the relationship began as a friendship, which developed as they discussed their shared attraction to women.
She explained that they initially “wanted it to just be a friendship” because it “went against their beliefs as Christians,” according to court documents.
The pair reported having sexual encounters at Lemon’s apartment, located on school property.
Lemon also stayed overnight at the student’s home, where they shared a pull-out couch in the basement. Around this time, the student began asking her parents about the age of consent, which is 16 in Indiana.
The girl’s father said he was aware that his daughter had “kissed, hugged and cuddled” with the teacher but chose not to report it because he did not want Lemon to lose her job, according to court documents.
Lemon also told investigators that the girl’s mother had suspected “there was more to their relationship” than just friendship.
