Disney World hotel guest’s cause of death and identity revealed after three die at park in one month

Walt Disney World Resort, known for its family-friendly environment, is grappling with a somber series of events following the recent death of a hotel guest.

Matthew Cohn, 28, was found dead at the Contemporary Resort on October 26, 2025, marking the third fatality at Disney World in the month, The New York Post reports. Authorities confirmed that the cause of death was suicide, attributing the fatal injuries to multiple traumatic wounds.

Emergency responders and law enforcement were quickly on the scene, where they closed off sections of the hotel to prevent onlookers from seeing the incident unfold. The investigation, led by the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, classified the death as suicide.

“At this time, we can confirm that the manner of death was ruled suicide; cause of death: multiple traumatic injuries,” a spokesperson said.

Hotel staff shield guests from tragic event

Guests who were staying at the Contemporary Resort reported being instructed not to view the area from their balconies. Staff members attempted to block the scene using hotel materials such as scaffolding and towel carts, along with setting up a white tent in the area.

One guest, sharing footage of the scene on TikTok, described the overwhelming law enforcement presence, saying, “We woke up to a VERY large law enforcement [presence] outside our balcony this morning at Disney’s Bay Lake Tower. We were told it was a ‘medical emergency.’ Prayers to the family & those involved!”

Another guest, staying with her family, recalled seeing CPR being performed on the victim. “Unsure if he fell or jumped. They knocked on our door as well and told us not to look out the window and that there was a medical emergency. Have not heard or confirmed anything as we left to go to the parks shortly after. Sad situation all around for everyone involved,” she wrote.

Recent string of deaths at Disney World Resort

Cohn’s death follows another tragic event earlier in the month at the same hotel. On October 14, Summer Equitz, 31, a Disney enthusiast from Naperville, Illinois, took her life at the Contemporary Resort. Her family revealed she had flown to Florida without informing them before her body was discovered.

Additionally, a third guest passed away just days prior at the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, located less than a mile from the Contemporary Resort. This individual, in his 60s, reportedly experienced a medical episode, according to local authorities.
