Over his year and a half as president, Donald Trump's relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has been the one that has received the most airtime. Nonetheless, it can't be forgotten that the former reality TV star has many world leaders who he counts as enemies; one of the main ones seemingly being Iranian president Hassan Rouhani.

From the moment the businessman came into office, he vowed to take a hard line on Iran and scrap the Obama-negotiated nuclear deal of 2015, claiming that it did not do enough to stop Iran from funding extremist groups throughout the Middle East, a promise he fulfilled in May.

From then on, the White House and the Iranian government have been involved in a war of words, and one particularly memorable moment saw the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo liken the Iranian regime to the mafia, when he stated: "The level of corruption and wealth among regime leaders shows that Iran is run by something that resembles the mafia more than a government."

However, the situation reached boiling point recently when Iranian President Rouhani cautioned that a war between the US and Iran would be the "mother of all wars" in a speech on Sunday. Warning Trump against pursuing hostile policies against Tehran, and remaining open to the possibility of peace between the two countries, he stated: "America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars. You are not in a position to incite the Iranian nation against Iran’s security and interests."

His words spurred the United States President to furiously take to Twitter to launch a frenzied, late-night, all-cap-locks tirade on Sunday night, which informed President Rouhani to "be cautious".

"To Iranian President," he wrote. "NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!"

However, rather than instigating fear, his tweet brought the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ powerful Basij militia to dismiss his threats. Referring to Trump as "this crazy president, Gholamhossein Gheybparvar told Iranian news agency Isna that Trump "has another thing coming if he thinks he can act against Iran".

“America wants nothing less than to destroy Iran," he said. "We will never abandon our revolutionary beliefs ... and both the people and armed forces will stand firm in the face of enemies."

Sadly for Trump though, many other people on social media ignored his heated threats, choosing to mock him for his childish tweet instead. "To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER EVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP. NEVER GONNA LET YOU DOWN. NEVER GONNA RUN AROUND AROUND AND DESERT YOU. NEVER GONNA MAKE YOU CRY. NEVER GONNA SAY GOODBYE. NEVER GONNA TELL A LIE AND HURT YOU," wrote Twitter user @ZackBornstein.

He was joined by many others, including @thelindsayellis who posted saying: "To Iranian President Rouhani: YO I TELL YOU WHAT I WANT WHAT I REALLY REALLY WANT SO TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT WHAT YOU REALLY REALLY WANT I TELL YOU WHAT I WANT WHAT I REALLY REALLY WANT SO TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT WHAT YOU REALLY REALLY WANT I WANNA HUH I WANNA HUH I WANNA HUH I WANNA".

While some Trump supporters may disapprove of the roasting Trump was given for his tweet, they do kind of have a point. After all, if all of the former reality TV star's tweets were taken seriously, America would be officially at war with Iran, Mexico, North Korea, Canada, CNN, Obama, Hillary Clinton, the list goes on...
