Grandma reveals truth about mom who killed her 11-year-old daughter after she missed cheerleading competition in Las Vegas
Months after the deaths of a young mom and daughter, the mother and grandmother of the pair has spoken out for the first time about what she believed really happened.
On February 15, 11-year-old Addi failed to show up for a cheer competition, and she was later found dead at a nearby hotel, next to her mother’s lifeless body.
Shortly after the welfare check in which Addi and Tawnia McGeehan were found dead, cops determined that the mother was responsible for both their deaths.
Tawnia had no violent history and loved her daughter very much
The devastating news came as a huge shock to their friends and family, as Tawnia had no history of conflict and was described as being extremely close. Tawnia’s mother and Addi’s grandmother, Connie McGeehan, has recently spoken out about the close bond the duo shared.
She said: “Addi wanted nothing more than to spend time with her mommy. Tawnia loved that little girl with everything she had.”
Speaking to the New York Post, Connie said Tawnia and Addi were “always doing fun things” together, including visiting “the amusement park, swimming, movies, the arcade, the mall and so much more.”
The grieving grandmother claimed Tawnia “would do anything for anyone” and “she was the best mom” anyone could have. Referring to Tawnia, she also added: “I want more than anything for people to know how big of a heart she had.”
The mom was suffering from depression when she killed her daughter
In the months since the tragedy, investigators have speculated that Tawnia’s nine-year-long custody dispute with Addi’s father, Brad Smith, may have led her to commit the murder suicide.
The mother was also described as being “severely depressed” following a series of difficult breakups.
An autopsy showed that Tawnia used a firearm to commit the unimaginable while both of them had multiple prescription medications in their systems.
Substances including quetiapine, an antipsychotic medication; gabapentin, an anticonvulsant used to treat seizure disorders; lorazepam, an anxiety medication; and diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, were all detected in the pre-teen.
Tawnia, meanwhile, had consumed the same medications alongside eszopiclone or zopiclone, a prescription sedative; the antidepressant citalopram or escitalopram; desmethyl loperamide; and more.
Multiple notes were left with the bodies. The first was attached to a chair at the entrance of the mom and daughter’s hotel room. Tragically, it read: “Call 911 before walking in. Two d**d bodies and one is an 11-year-old.”
Another note revealed that Addi had been given a cocktail of medicines during her final hours and that “she slept cuddled with” her mom.
