Hillary Clinton has trolled Donald Trump over his permanent ban from social media site Twitter, taking to the very platform Trump is no longer able to communicate on to do so.

In case you somehow missed the news, the @realDonaldTrump account was banned from the site earlier this week.

Trump has had his Twitter account permanently banned from the platform "due to the risk of further incitement of violence", the company has said. Referring specifically to the "@realDonaldTrump account" in a statement posted to Twitter's blog site, the company advised that the account had been permanently suspended.

Watch: Did Hillary Clinton perfectly predict Donald Trump's reaction to the 2020 election?

Twitter's statement on Trump's permanent suspension from the platform reads in part:

"After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.

"In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action. Our public interest framework exists to enable the public to hear from elected officials and world leaders directly. It is built on a principle that the people have a right to hold power to account in the open.

"However, we made it clear going back years that these accounts are not above our rules entirely and cannot use Twitter to incite violence, among other things. We will continue to be transparent around our policies and their enforcement."

And celebrities have been responding to the decision since it was announced. Sacha Baron Cohen called the move "the most important moment in the history of social media."

Taking to Twitter, the Borat creator wrote:

"This is the most important moment in the history of social media. The world’s largest platforms have banned the world's biggest purveyor of lies, conspiracies and hate. To every Facebook and Twitter employee, user and advocate who fought for this--the entire world thanks you!"

And now, Hillary Clinton, Trump's former rival for the US presidency, has trolled the current President over his ban from the platform.

Way back in 2016, Clinton famously tweeted to Trump telling him to delete his account.

Now, Clinton has returned to the tweet in light of recent developments, giving it a quick update in the form of a single tick.

And unsurprisingly, the tweet has quickly gone incredibly viral, with more than 900k likes and 140k retweets since it was first posted.
