JD Vance branded 'despicable' for celebrating one achievement he is 'proudest' of in government
Vice President J.D. Vance has come under fire once again following comments he made about one of the things he is “most proud of” during Trump’s administration.
Vance, who appeared at conservative group Turning Point USA’s campus tour in Georgia on Tuesday, was called “absolutely despicable” for his latest comments.
Trump’s right-hand man featured in a live talk-in, although he spoke to a sea of empty seats as students at the University of Georgia appeared to boycott his planned discussion at the Akins Ford Arena.
What did Vance say to cause outrage?
Answering questions posed by Turning Point executive Andrew Kolvet, Vance addressed issues relating to the Iran war, Trump’s controversial social media posts, and the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Yet, it was the rhetoric around the war in Ukraine that sparked scathing criticism of Vance’s stance.
When expressing what he was most pleased with during his first 15 months in office, Vance said: “This person got really agitated at me because I said we should stop funding the Ukraine war, ok. I still believe that, obviously, and it is one of the things I am proudest of in this administration.”
The 50th vice president continued: “We’ve told Europe that if you want to buy weapons, you can, but the United States isn’t buying weapons and sending them to Ukraine anymore.”
Following a heated meeting with Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy last year, the U.S. suspended its shipments of air defence systems and precision weapons due to concerns around stockpiles running out.
Social media responds to Vance's assertion
After announcing that ending aid to Ukraine was one of his proudest achievements thus far, Vance came in for plenty of condemnation. One X user said: “JD Vance says stopping the funding for Ukraine is one of the things he’s most proud of. Absolutely despicable.”
While another complained: “Obscene thing to say. If you must, say, 'I’m sorry but Ukraine is not our problem; we have bigger issues to deal with; Europe should step up'. But to say you’re proud of starving a country of help in the face of lethal aggression? Just don’t understand this man’s morality.”
A third added: "JD Vance is the most disgraceful person in United States. He's unqualified to be the Vice president of the United States.
"As the Hungarian people disgraced him and Trump by firing Viktor Orban. Vance hide his face in ashes when Ukraine defeats Russia and Putin arrested by ICC.”
