A spokesperson for former US President Joe Biden has confirmed that the 82-year-old has undergone surgery for skin cancer.

The ex-POTUS was spotted out and about for the Labor Day weekend with a large gash covered by bandages on his head, sparking further rumors about his health.

It has been known for some time that Biden has been in treatment for an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, and he has had several surgeries in the past for skin cancer.

Now, a spokesperson has confirmed another procedure.

Former President Joe Biden has undergone surgery for skin cancer

As reported by BBC News, Biden’s spokesperson said that the former Delaware Senator had undergone Mohs surgery, although she didn’t provide any further details.

That procedure involves cutting away skin until the cancerous region is gone and no cancer evidence remains.

It left Biden with a large wound on the right side of his head, which was noticed by many who saw him over the recent long weekend.

Last weekend, Biden was seen leaving a church in Rehoboth Beach with the bandages on his head, and he had been spotted the day before at an ice cream shop wearing a baseball cap.

Biden also appeared frail in a video shared to social media.

Fred Karger, who captured the footage and shared it with Inside Edition, who broke the story, said: "I was a little surprised cause it’s a noticeable scar,

"It looks fresh, a little hair combed over the scar.

"It looks to me like someone who had several basal cells, skin cancers removed from his head."

When the surgery took place is not clear, but Biden was spotted with the scar towards the end of August as he attended the funeral of former Delaware Representative and Governor Mike Castle at St Joseph on the Brandywine Church in Greenville, Delaware.

Biden has had similar cancer treatment in the past

Back in 2023, Biden was treated for cancer and had a cancerous skin lesion removed from his chest, he has also had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed before.

The president has largely retreated from public life since his diagnosis with an aggressive form of prostate cancer and bone cancer back in May

At the time, he wrote on social media: “Cancer touches us all,

“Like so many of you, [First Lady] Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”

Doctors had classified his cancer as highly aggressive, with a Gleason score of nine and a Grade Group of five, which is the most severe rating.
