Marian Robinson - the mother of former US First Lady Michelle Obama - has sadly passed away.
The former FLOTUS has issued a heartbreaking statement following the news of her mom's passing, with the family confirming that Marian died at the age of 86.
The family's statement revealed that the matriarch died "peacefully" on Friday morning (May 31).
Daughter Michelle has also shared a personal tribute on her social media channels, writing on Instagram: "My mom Marian Robinson was my rock, always there for whatever I needed."

"She was the same steady backstop for our entire family, and we are heartbroken to share she passed away today. We wanted to offer some reflections on her remarkable life..."
In a carousel, Michelle then shared some of her mom's biggest mantras for life, which included: "Don't sweat the small stuff. Know what's truly precious. As a parent, you're not raising babies - you're raising little people.
"Don't worry about whether anybody else like you. Come home. We'll always like you here."
Former President Barack Obama also shared a statement on X honoring his late mother-in-law, writing: “There was and will be only one Marian Robinson.
"In our sadness, we are lifted up by the extraordinary gift of her life and we will spend the rest of ours trying to live up to her example."

After sharing their tributes, many celebs shared their best wishes with the Obama family, such as songwriting Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote: "When you invited me to perform at the White House in 2009, I was too intimidated look any of you in the eye from the stage.
" It wasn’t until I looked over and saw your mom’s encouraging smile that I relaxed and was able to proceed. It’s unimaginable that she’s no longer here. All our love and prayers to you and your family in the days and weeks ahead."
Loni Love added: "She was the first African American Grand First Lady .. she was always classy, true and beautiful. Thank you for your service in helping to keep our Forever First Lady and President honorable. My sincere condolences to the entire family."
And Tamar Braxton commented: My sister!! I’ll never [forgot] about the conversations we had about our moms!! I’m so sorry!! I’ll always be here for you".

Robinson was a familiar presence during the Obama administration from 2009 to 2017. She was often photographed spending time with her granddaughters, Malia and Sasha, and became affectionately known as "the First Grandmother of the United States".
