A strange moment between Melania Trump and her step-daughter Ivanka at the 2020 Republican National Convention has gone viral on social media.
People had a lot to say about the First Lady's expression after Ivanka walked past her on stage at the event that was held on Thursday night (August 27) on the South Lawn at the White House in Washington, D.C.
After Ivanka gave her speech and Melania walked on stage with her husband, Donald Trump, she walked past the couple on the way to her seat. Initially, Melania can be seen giving Ivanka a big smile, but her facial expression quickly changed after Ivanka passed.
Check out the moment below:

"The disdain she has for Ivanka is all of us," commented one social media user in response to the clip, while another corroborated: "It looked like the shock and disappointment of an unexpected snub to me. I love that Melania has basically no poker face. Her forced smile is pretty good but it's pretty obvious that she despises everything about her marriage except that gaudy penthouse and Barron."

This comes after Bette Midler was roundly criticized for tweeting that the First Lady "still can't speak English", and branded her an "illegal alien".She added that the 50-year-old former model, born in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, was "One lucky Slovenian! And after all that surgery, you hit a kind of horrible jackpot, chained to [a] colossal idiot."

Midler's remarks were, of course, xenophobic, and the backlash from both the left and right was swift.
"When Liberals are so bad that you have to defend Melania Trump. This is beyond gross @BetteMidler and I am no fan of the First Lady. You have become what you think you are “resisting", wrote one commentator.

Another corroborated: "I cannot understand how such blatant hypocrisy doesn’t make their heads explode. People like Bette Midler and Kathy Griffin expend enormous energy calling Trump and his supporters racists and bigots, then mock the First Lady, who speaks 5 languages, because she has an accent? [sic]"
Midler has since responded to the criticism, and issued the following apology on Twitter:
"Well, all hell has broken loose because I said Melania ‘still can’t speak English’ last night. I was wrong to make fun of her accent.
"America is made up [of] people who speak with all kinds of accents, and they are all welcomed always."
