Just days after Lindsay Clancy’s triple murder trial collapsed, a two-year-old was found hanging by his neck in the basement of his family’s home by their neighbor after allegedly being murdered by his mom.
The mom-of-four, Corie Walsh, 40, was then reportedly discovered in a bathtub, self-harming. She has since been charged with murdering the tot, Barrett Walsh.
According to court documents, Walsh’s neighbor, who had not been publicly named, reportedly found the toddler’s lifeless body hanging by a rope around his neck, with his feet off the ground on Tuesday, September 6.
The horrified neighbor removed the rope, pulled him to the ground and began performing CPR after calling the emergency services. Tragically, Barrett died shortly after being rushed to hospital.
Moments later, the neighbor discovered the lifeless toddler’s mom upstairs in a bloody bathtub “actively harming herself” with a knife. She removed the knife from Walsh and pressed a towel over the wounds on her thighs and wrists.
Just hours after talking about the Lindsay Clancy trial, in which the mom-of-three was being prosecuted for strangling her three children to death but claimed that she was legally insane due to post-partum psychosis, Walsh described her own son as the “anti-Christ” and the “devil”.
Similar to Clancy's defence, Walsh’s lawyer is claiming she suffered a psychotic episode before she killed her young son.
Walsh’s lawyer told ABC 7 Chicago that the mother of four “was experiencing a psychotic episode.”
Attorney Andrea Lyon said: “This is a tragedy for the Walsh family, all of whom are mourning the loss of this child.
“It is our hope that through a thorough presentation and investigation of the facts, that all of us will come to see this heartbreak for what it is.”
After jurors in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial were unable to reach a unanimous verdict, it ended in a mistrial on Friday, September 4, and prosecutors have not yet decided whether to retry her or not.
The 36-year-old mother has been accused of killing her three children before jumping out of a window in January 2023. The Massachusetts mom allegedly strangled her kids, Cora, five; Dawson, three; and eight-month-old Callan, before throwing herself out of a second-story window in an attempt to take her own life.
Clancy, who survived, now requires a wheelchair and has not denied strangling her children, though she claims she was suffering from undiagnosed postpartum psychosis.
