The chaos kicked off around 3PM on Tuesday, when the California Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle hit-and-run going eastbound on Ventura Freeway, according to KTLA.

What followed was a manhunt that included stripped suspects, backyard pools, and a dramatic armed standoff in a residential neighborhood.

Three men reportedly bailed from the scene of the crash and fled on foot, sparking a large-scale hunt by CHP and LAPD officers.

Witnesses Alana Altmeyer and her brother Guy Binn spoke to the outlet about the chaotic moment they sprang into action after spotting one of the suspects walking away from the scene.

“I saw a gentleman walking on the shoulder,” Altmeyer said. “So, my brother and I went over and assumed that he was leaving the scene of an accident.”

That was the moment things went off the rails as the siblings tried to intercept the suspects, but they ran. One of them fell while trying to cross the freeway, “bleeding from his head, his mouth and his knees,” Altmeyer said, but he still managed to escape down an embankment.

Binn gave chase, pursuing the man across the freeway and through backyards. “He had a bag and a sweater. I got his bag. I got his sweater and me being so old, I couldn’t keep up with the guy,” he told the outlet. “I chased him to the park, and I lost him.”

That suspect, the same man who later stripped down to his boxers and tried to blend in by jumping into someone’s pool and watering their plants, was eventually arrested about an hour and a half later. Two others remain on the run.

Just when it seemed things couldn’t get more bizarre, the hunt led police to Eagle Vista Drive in the Eagle Rock neighborhood, where they encountered 51-year-old Jillian Lauren Shriner, an author and wife of Weezer’s bassist.

Police say Jillian was standing outside her home armed with a handgun. Officers ordered her to drop the weapon “numerous times,” according to TMZ, but she refused. She then allegedly pointed the gun at officers, and this prompted them to open fire.

She was hit in the shoulder but still managed to retreat into her home before eventually surrendering alongside the family’s babysitter.

Sky5’s helicopter footage showed both women walking down the driveway with their hands raised before being ordered to lie face down on the pavement and handcuffed. A young boy was later seen exiting the house with his hands up.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported Jillian to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening wound. Police say they recovered a 9-millimeter handgun from the residence.

The writer has since been booked for attempted murder. Both she and the babysitter have been released from police custody.

Meanwhile, KTLA reported that a woman injured in the original crash suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital. No officers were injured in either incident.
