Shocking texts teacher, 28, sent to student, 15, before being caught by his aunt
A 28-year-old Ohio teacher has admitted to a disturbing relationship with her teenage student after sending thousands of explicit messages that only came to light when a relative caught them together.
Jamelah Daboubi, who taught 10th grade at Horizon Science Academy in Columbus, pleaded guilty to sex crimes earlier this year.
Investigators say the months-long relationship involved constant communication, with the teacher allegedly flooding the 15-year-old boy with texts and even declaring her feelings for him. The situation escalated behind closed doors until a shocking discovery by the teen’s aunt exposed what had been going on.
The case has since revealed a trail of messages, calls, and admissions that paint a clear picture of how the relationship developed and how authorities stepped in.
Aunt’s discovery sparks investigation
In April 2025, Columbus police were called to a home on Salado Creek Drive on the city’s northeast side after the teen’s aunt made a disturbing discovery. According to prosecutors, she found her nephew, over whom she has guardianship, sitting in a car with Daboubi.
When questioned, the teen admitted he had been involved in a sexual relationship with the teacher, including kissing and touching. He also told officers they had been "texting for a couple of months and engaging in sexual activity for a period of time," prosecutors said, per the Daily Mail.
Police later seized the boy’s phone, uncovering hundreds of calls and thousands of messages between him and Daboubi, including declarations of their twisted 'love,' according to the statement.
Charges, plea and sentencing details
Daboubi pleaded guilty in February to charges including gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, according to court documents obtained by WBNS. She had originally been charged with two counts of sexual battery before those charges were amended.
The school confirmed she was fired on April 21, 2025. As part of her plea deal, she must register as a sex offender. The court has recommended five years of community control, mandatory counseling, community service, and the removal of her teaching license.
She is expected to be sentenced at a later date and will be locked up for 18 months, according to the outlet.
Separate case raises further concern
The case follows another incident in Washington state involving a high school teacher accused of abusing a student. Madeline Gregory, 29, was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old inside a classroom closet at Sprague High School.
Court papers say Gregory told the student she was in a 'sexless marriage', while a friend of the alleged victim told police she said she "won't have sex with her husband."
