University of Georgia football star Devin Willock and staff member Chandler LeCroy killed in car crash

A University of Georgia football player and staff member have been killed in a single car crash following the team's championship victory on Saturday.

As reported by CNN, the devastating car crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, at approximately 2:45AM.

Devin Willock, an offensive line and redshirt sophomore for the University of Georgia was traveling with staff member Chandler LeCroy and two others just hours after taking part in their team's national championship with a victory parade and celebration in Athens, Georgia.

Tragically, 20-year-old Willock and 24-year-old LeCroy were both killed after a car crash occurred not far from the UGA campus.

Authorities say the car they group were traveling in struck two power poles and several trees.

A statement from the UGA Athletic Association has confirmed the deaths, writing: "The entire Georgia family is devastated by the tragic loss of football student-athlete Devin Willock and football staff member Chandler LeCroy.

"Two other members of the football program were injured in the accident. They are both in stable condition, and we will continue to monitor their status with medical personnel.

'Devin and Chandler were two special people who meant so much to the University of Georgia, our football program and our athletic department."

"We ask that everyone keep their families in your prayers during this very difficult time," the statement added.

The UGA Athletic Association says that it will work with its medical team and mental health and performance personnel to to provide support for its staff and student-athletes following the heartbreaking losses.

CNN reports that the two other individuals in the car - who have not yet been identified - suffered injuries in the crash, but remain in a stable condition at a local hospital.

Willock has played in all 15 of his team's games this season, and LeCroy had been with the school's athletic department for four years and worked recruiting analyst, per the Daily Mail.

UGA Head Football Coach Kirby Smart has said in a statement: "We are all heartbroken and devastated with the loss of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy.

"Devin was an outstanding young man in every way. He was always smiling, was a great teammate and a joy to coach.

"Chandler was a valuable member of our football staff and brought an incredible attitude and energy every single day. We grieve with their families for this tragic loss and will support them in every way possible."

Additionally, University President Jere W. Morehead released the following statement on Sunday morning: "Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends. We also pray for the full recovery of those injured in this tragic accident."

Following the news, fans and loved ones have been flooding both Willock's and LeCroy's social media accounts with tributes.

Our thoughts go out to Willock's and LeCroy's families, and everybody affected by this tragedy.
