A win on a lottery ticket would often signal that somebody is having a lucky day - but that certainly wasn't true for one Florida man this week.
Per Fox 13 News, a man later identified as Herbert McClellan was reported to authorities on Tuesday after running away with 13 scratch-off lottery tickets from a convenience store in Clearwater, Florida.
However, just hours later, the 27-year-old realized one of the tickets was a $30 winner, and therefore decided to try and cash it in... at the same store!
For another dumb criminal, check out this woman who tried to hide from police by hiding in the roof... only to fall through:After the store's employees recognized McClellan, they called 911.
Writing a tongue-in-cheek post on their official Facebook page, officials from the Clearwater Police Department said: "For most people, it's their lucky day when they get a winning scratch-off lottery ticket.
"That was not the case this week for Herbert McClellan, who is currently sitting in the Pinellas County Jail because of a winning $30 lottery ticket."
The post continued: "The problem is that McClellan stole 13 scratch-off tickets from the Speedway convenience store at 32 Bay Esplanade. When he found out that one was a winner, he went back to the same store to cash it in. That's when store workers called us, and we arrested him.
"He was charged with petit theft and dealing in stolen property. It's safe to say it was not his lucky day."
As reported by WTSP, McClellan was later arrested and charged with petit theft and dealing in stolen property.
I guess all those Scooby-Doo cartoons were correct when they said that the suspect always returns to the scene of the crime.
