The record was awarded to 18-year-old Lalit Patidar by Guinness World Records, with an official tally of 201.72 hairs per square centimeter, which was verified in Milan, Italy, on February 13, 2025.
Lalit, who is from India, has Hypertrichosis - also known as werewolf syndrome - which is a rare condition that causes excessive hair growth anywhere on the body.
The teen's face is over 95 percent covered in hair, according to Guinness World Records, with the most densely covered part being his forehead.
Lalit is one of only around 50 documented cases reported worldwide since the Middle Ages.
He shared the news of his record-breaking achievement in an Instagram post on March 10, writing: "Proud of me," adding in an interview with the Guinness World Records: "I am speechless. I don’t know what to say because I’m very happy to get this recognition."
He revealed that his unique condition did make starting school quite tough as the other children were fearful of his unusual looks.
Lalit explained: "They were scared of me but when they started knowing me and talking to me they understood I was not so different from them, and it was just on the outside that I looked different, but I’m not different inside."
He revealed that while some people treat him differently, most people are welcoming of him, adding: "Sometimes people treat me not very well. But it’s very rare. Usually, people take me very good, and also people are good to me. It depends on the person."
Some people have even told him he should remove his facial hair, but he prefers to embrace his unique look: "There is not much to say to people about that. I tell them that I like how I am and I don’t want to change my look."
He revealed that his family has always been supportive of him, including with starting his own YouTube channel following his day-to-day life.
Lalit's record was officially verified in Italy on the television show Lo Show dei Record, where the density of hair on his face was measured.
He was assessed by a local trichologist, who shaved tiny portions of his face to be able to measure the amount of hairs per square centimeter.
Lalit, who dreams of traveling the world and experiencing other cultures, has already amassed over 266,000 followers on Instagram and over 108,000 on YouTube.
