Piers Morgan produces a 'seriously offensive' toy during heated Caitlyn Jenner interview

If you were to rank the most polarizing celebrities of the 21st century, Piers Morgan and Caitlyn Jenner would probably finish up quite close to one another. While the former is a journalist known for his Twitter rants, the latter is a figurehead of the Kardashian clan and - according to some people - a traitor to the trans community. So what happens when you put them in a room together? Well, Morgan invited the 68-year-old reality star onto his show Life Stories, and things soon got pretty heated. During the pair's discussion, which is not due to air in the UK until Thursday, Morgan seemed to be trying his best to push Jenner's buttons. She, meanwhile, was doing well to remain calm and composed, and actually appeared to be more attentive to LGBTQ issues than she has been in the past. But then, shortly into the interview, Morgan pulled out a toy. Not just any toy, but a figurine of Jenner when she was an athlete - which was obviously long prior to her coming out as transgender. So you can probably already see where this is going. Pointing at the toy, Morgan says almost tauntingly, "You were an all-American, 6ft 2in muscle-bound guy. When you look at that guy what do you think?" To which Jenner responded, "Good for him. There is a lot more to this story than just that." And that should have been the end of the matter - but the breakfast show presenter wasn't going to be so quick to stray from what I'm sure he considers to be a particularly juicy topic. In fact, he only made it a lot worse. "How does your physique compare now to what it did then?" he asked. "Obviously, certain areas we know about." Seriously? "Certain areas"? Morgan couldn't have been any less subtle if he'd literally help up a flashing neon sign which read, "BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR GENITALS?" Fortunately, Jenner wasn't having any of it. "You made a comment there and that's why you would get in trouble, ok?" she said. "You said 'certain areas' - that, to a trans-person, is disrespectful." So now that should have been the end of it. She told him he was being disrespectful, and he - knowing that he has made some upsetting and distasteful remarks in the past - should have just dropped it and moved on. But, surprise, surprise, Morgan hit back with another zinger of a question, and you could almost see him holding back a gleeful smile as he did so. "Because you don't make a joke about that," she said. "It's not funny. It's life. I take that very seriously and so out of respect to myself and the community, it's not something that you joke about. This is serious stuff. People die over these issues. It's not a joke." Amazingly, this actually seemed to have an effect on Morgan. "Point taken," he conceded. Well, you have to hand it to her: Caitlyn Jenner may have stumbled once or twice while acting as a representative of the trans community, but this time she handled the situation pretty well. Not many people have the guts to backtalk Piers Morgan with such composure, but she did - and he seemed to respect that.
