A woman who works aboard so-called “spicy” cruise ships is shedding light on what really happens behind the closed doors of the infamous “red rooms”, and it’s not for the faint of heart.
“Spicy” is a term affectionately used by frequent travelers in the swinging and adult lifestyle communities to describe these adults-only cruises. While not exclusively for swingers, these voyages offer a liberating space for open-minded couples, and yes, partner-swapping is an option for those who are curious.
Kate Shelor, an intimacy coach and certified hypnotherapist based in Las Vegas, has twice worked aboard one such cruise run by Temptation, a company that charters entire ships to create a uniquely uninhibited experience at sea.
One of the most intriguing (and secretive) aspects of these cruises is the “red room,” a private, couples-only space where phones and cameras are strictly prohibited and access is closely monitored by staff, Kate explained on her TikTok.
The room’s exact location varies depending on the ship, but it’s always situated in one of the larger venues due to its popularity. Before each voyage, staff load brand new mattresses onto the ship, along with stacks of clean linens.
“They bring in loads of fresh mattresses covered with plastic, topped with sheets, towels, and water stations. The lighting is soft and sexy, it’s all set up to make people feel relaxed and comfortable,” Kate said.
The red room is outfitted for intimacy, whether it’s between partners or shared with others, and guests are free to participate as little or as much as they like. Some come just to observe, sip a drink, and take in the atmosphere.
Kate’s role isn’t just to oversee; she also leads unique “hypnotic sex” sessions. Using her background in hypnosis and intimacy coaching, she guides couples through a meditative, sensual experience intended to deepen connection and even trigger simultaneous orgasms in a group setting.
