It's almost time to ring in 2025, and everyone's hoping it's going to be a happy, peaceful, and fruitful year.

However, that might not be the case for everyone, if the famed French astrologer and seer Nostradamus's predictions are to be believed.

Nostradamus famously released Les Prophéties in 1555, a collection of 942 poetic quatrains allegedly predicting future events.

Some of the world events he foretold, such as the death of the French king Henry II and Adolf Hitler's rise to power, have come to fruition hundreds of years after his death - and there are plenty more predictions to come.

Opinions have remained divided over the accuracy of his prophecies, with some arguing that his quatrains were phrased so vaguely that they could be tailored to any situation after the fact, while others believe he really did have the ability to see into the future.

Here is what his predictions have said is in store for the world in 2025, as deciphered by History.co.uk.

The war in Ukraine

The war in Ukraine has been raging since February 2022 when Russian troops invaded the country, but according to Nostradamus's predictions, the end may well be in sight next year.

His quatrain states:"Through long war all the army exhausted, so that they do not find money for the soldiers; instead of gold or silver, they will come to coin leather, Gallic brass, and the crescent sign of the Moon."

Exhausting army resources and funding could mean the end of the war, but it remains unclear exactly how that would be expected to come about. The mention of Gallic brass may hint at French involvement, while the crescent moon could be symbolic of Turkey.

Both countries have previously expressed their support for Ukraine in the past, so this prediction could suggest they will have key roles in ending the conflict.

A plague or war in Europe

Things could also be looking concerning for the United Kingdom as one of Nostradamus's quatrains appears to suggest a plague or war could affect Great Britain too.

He wrote: "When those from the lands of Europe see England set up her throne behind her flanks, there will be cruel wars. The ancient plague will be worse than enemies."

It is believed that the mention of the country withdrawing into itself could be in reference to the continuing fallout from the Brexit referendum.

Fresh off the back of the Covid-19 pandemic, many will be hoping that there isn't also an "ancient plague" set to come back.

Volcanoes or flooding in Brazil

South America is not immune from the predictions of doom, either, it seems, as one quatrain suggests a natural disaster could be heading for Brazil.

His prophecy goes: "Garden of the world near the new city, in the path of the hollow mountains: It will be seized and plunged into the Tub, forced to drink waters poisoned by sulphur."

While some had claimed this was in reference to 9/11. according to the site's interpretation, "garden of the world" refers to the Amazon rainforest, while the "new city" could refer to the planned Brazilian capital of Brasilia.

The mention of being "plunged into the Tub" appears to suggest a flood is coming, while "sulphur" could mean volcanic activity is afoot.

Here's hoping that some (if not all) of this, doesn't actually come true...
