A 35lb cat named Bazooka has become the internet's new obsession.

The chunky boy is five years old, and he found himself tipping the scales because of his owner. Sadly, he was a senior citizen with dementia and kept forgetting that he'd already fed the tabby cat.

Bazooka is now so heavy that when he arrived at the SPCA of Wake County, two people had to carry in his crate.

"They alerted us to Bazooka here and once we saw the pictures we were like, 'We have to get this kitty,'" Darci Vanderslik, an SPCA spokesperson, told ABC Raleigh station WTVD. "Thirty-five pounds is a lot of weight for a cat so we're really hoping we can get him down 20 pounds, 25 pounds, even lighter than that. You know, one step at a time."

Thankfully, things are now looking up for Bazooka. He's on a prescription diet to help him lose weight in a healthy way and is being cared for by a foster family.

The SPCA of Wake County wrote on its Facebook page: "Because of your support, we're giving this big boy a new life."

Needless to say, Bazooka's weight was the main talking point of the post, with many relating and others wishing him all the luck in the world as he goes on a journey to lose it.

One Facebook user wrote: "Oh my! Poor fella, after the holidays I can sure relate!"

A second remarked: "Wow, he weighs more than my pug at his heaviest".

Meanwhile, a third pointed out the obvious, writing: "He won't be catching to [sic] many mice."

Here's hoping that with a little help from his new friends, Bazooka can lose his extra weight and eventually find a new forever home. You got this, buddy!
