Given everything that's going on in the world, it only seems right that we'd want to see something downright adorable. Well, enter the frowning frog - AKA - the Black Rain Frog.
This species of frog is only found on the southern slopes of the Cape Fold Belt in South Africa, and at elevations of up to over 3,300ft (1,000m), Because the Black Rain Frog is a burrowing species, it's habitat is fynbos and forest fringes, and it doesn't even need the presence of open water. What a creature, eh?
As Instagram account, csirogram, goes onto explain:
"This *truly heartbroken* Black Rain Frog (Breviceps fuscus) isn't actually sad - but just has a bit of resting sad face. Known for more than its looks, when scared the frog can puffs itself up with air to make its body more round. Kinda like a pufferfish!"
This isn't the case when it comes to mating season, however. During this period, the female will secrete a sticky substance on its back to keep the male from falling off; this is known as adhesive amplexus. Way to be clingy!
And people sure had a lot to say about this little creature. "If I was an animal, this would be me," wrote one Facebook user, while another corroborated: "I'd carry one in my shirt pocket and then cut in line. When someone calls me out, I'll whip this little dude out and immediately defuse the situation."
"They can roll down cliffs and hills to get away from predators," wrote a third. "Awesome".
