A dog has made headlines after embarking on a remarkable 57-mile journey back to her old home years after her family had moved out.

Four-year-old Labrador Cleo was clearly missing her old home when she disappeared earlier this month in Olath, Missouri, because 60 miles away in Lawson, Missouri, Colton Michael and his wife Britney noticed the clever pooch on their porch. Michael said his wife Britney first noticed Cleo as she was getting out of her car.

"She got out of her car and said, 'Where did the dog come from?'" he told KMBC, per the Metro.

The couple said Cleo seemed to be a little nervous when they first discovered her. "She wouldn't let us quite come near her," Michael said, though they would later learn that the porch used to be one of Cleo's favorite spots, when she had lived there more than two years earlier.

Colton Michael and his wife reportedly took Cleo to a vet, where her microchip revealed the amazing truth - that Cleo belonged to the family who used to live in their house.

"Britney said, 'That’s the people that used to live hear, [sic]'” Colton explained, per the Metro.

It's reported that Cleo's family had posted about her going missing weeks earlier. When she was found at their old home and the Colton's called them, they were left stunned.

"It’s the most bizarre story,’ Cleo’s owner, Drew said. "Really, she’s everything to us and my mother…It just feels good to be reunited with her."

No one is quite sure how Cleo managed to complete the epic 57-mile journey, which would have required her to cross a river at one stage.

"Its’ a mystery, something we will probably never know," said Colton. "Now that we know who she belongs to, if she pops up again, we know who to call."

While the exact details of Cleo's journey are unclear, one thing is for sure: she's an extremely clever, resourceful dog!
