Heroic dog gives his life to protect sleeping baby from cobra

There's no doubt that dogs are man's best friend. But that friendship also extends to children and babies as well. The lengths that our pets will go to protect us, and keep us happy are truly inspirational, and there are plenty of stories of canines who have rescued humans, with some of them making the ultimate sacrifice.

If you want an example of this then look no further than the following story. This week, a pair of dogs managed to save a tiny baby from a fatal fate, with one of them giving its life to keep the child alive.

Check out this video of the dog fending off the snake below:

Little baby Skye was fast asleep inside her home in the Filipino town of Kidapawan City. However, an open door meant that any predator could infiltrate the residence and prey upon the defenceless infant.

Sure enough, CCTV footage shows a deadly reptile slithering its way onto the patio and approaching the child. However, the two family dogs, a pair of dachshunds named Moxie and Millie, began pawing at the creature, only to pounce on it when they realised it was a danger.

The two pets struggled valiantly against the snake and managed to kill it, but not before it bit Millie, who died of her injuries moments later. Moxie meanwhile has been left blinded as a result of the venom.

The video of the dogs' heroic struggle has now managed to go viral on social media, after the graphic incident was recorded on a camera installed in the family home, and later uploaded to the internet.

Commenting on the incident, Skye's father Jaime Selim, stated: "My wife and I were out for work. When we arrived, our helper told us what happened and reviewed the cameras.''

Check out this video about another heroic dog who moved BGT judges to tears:

He added: "We were shocked but also so proud of the dogs. I can't thank my dogs enough for protecting my baby Skye."
