A vegan activist who claims she was ''shot at'' by Spanish farmers after setting 16 rabbits free, has allegedly indirectly killed nearly 100 of them.
''Mythical Mia'', an Instagram animal rights activist, recently explained in a social media vlog post that she had raided a farm close to where she lived, in an attempt to rescue the animals kept there. In the video, she appears to have a bloody face, and one of the windows of her car has been shattered.Check out Mia's video below:
Mia captioned the vlog: "Today we entered a rabbit farm and rescued 16 lives. The farmer was extremely aggressive and attacked us, strangling activists and smashing their heads with metal poles. The police came and told us to leave peacefully, which we did. After we left the farmers chased us down the motorway. We tried to lose them down a side road but they were on our tails."
She continued: "They were banging on the windows, shouting and threatening us. We called the police who arrived after an hour. They diffused the situation and escorted us to a 'safe place'. We asked them to escort us home, but they refused and said we would be okay. They let us go and 10 minutes later back on the motorway one of their cars pulled up alongside us and shot at us."
She added: "The most important thing is that the non-human animals are safe. They are far from that hell hole. I don't want this to be about me at all, I just want people to know how evil farmers are. If this is how they treat humans, how can we expect them to care for animals?"
"I had to delete all the footage of the rescue from my phone when the police arrived but will find and upload as much footage as possible of the animals and the rescue as soon as I can. Despite everything, I am just happy that those 16 lives are free from harm. They make everything worth it."
However, according to the Daily Mail, 90 rabbits at the farms later had to be put down as a result of the raid, and an additional five rabbits died during the incident, while others are said to have lost their offspring.
A spokesperson from the Catalonia police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, recently told Mail Online: "On Sunday, September 1 at 7.30pm, a group of activists entered a farm in Gurb, Osona, and took 14 rabbits. When Mossos d'Esquadra arrived at the site, the activists were outside. The 14 rabbits have not been found."
"There were some farmers at the scene and there was tension between the two groups. Mossos separated them and escorted them from the premises to avoid further conflict. Just before 11 pm, we were informed that one of the windows of an activist's car had suffered an impact."
And that a girl had injuries to her face as a result of the broken glass. The window was most likely struck by a forceful object, due to the nature of the impact, rather than a shot from a shotgun."
But this isn't the first time we've written about tensions between meat-eaters and vegans. Check out this article we penned about the vegan woman who took her neighbours to court to stop them cooking meat on BBQ.
