The heartwarming moment between a man and an orangutan has been captured on camera - reminding all of us to provide a helping hand to those in need.

Per the Daily Mail, the orangutan lives in a protected conservation forest area in Borneo, and the man in the powerful images is a conservationist working for the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation- a non-profit organization striving to protect the endangered species.

However, as the conservationist was searching for snakes in the muddy river, an orangutan appeared on the bank.

Amateur photographer Anil Prabhakar, from Indonesia, then captured the moment the great ape reached forward with a helping hand in what appears to be an attempt to help the man from the waters.

Mr Prabhakar captured the touching interaction while taking part in a safari tour with friends.

The conservationist had been working to rid the area of snakes in an attempt to further guard the orangutans. Mr Prabhakar did reveal that the worker refused the orangutan's hand, due to the fact it is still a wild animal that he is not familiar with.

People online were clearly touched by the scene, taking to Twitter to share their feelings on the inquisitive great ape.

Twitter user Manish Motwani wrote: "Take a tip from the world’s most intelligent animals and give each other a helping hand today. It’s in your DNA somewhere!"

And Clive Hallam shared the story to his Twitter feed, writing: "We’re all animals and we’re all in this together. Wonderful act of compassion by a wild orangutan. Happy Friday people!"

According to the WWF, orangutans have an arm span of over seven feet from fingertip to fingertip and are incredibly dexterous - making them rather useful if you ever do need a helping hand.

The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS Foundation) was founded in Indonesia back in 1991. Currently, 400 members of staff work to protect and care for nearly 650 orangutans.
