Last month, on September 10, a beautiful seal who was raised in captivity celebrated turning 31 with a big "ice fish cake".
The seal, known as Yulelogs, had his big day documented on Instagram by staff at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, where he lives.
In a lengthy post accompanying four images of the animal with his huge ice fish cake, the UK-based sanctuary wrote: "Wishing our gorgeous boy Yulelogs a very happy 31st birthday today! The team have spoilt him with an amazing ice fish cake which as you can see he very much enjoyed!"
Referring to Yulelogs as a "firm favorite" with both the team and guests, the sanctuary also explained in the post that he was originally rescued back in 1989 by a marine park in northern England. However, when the park closed down Yulelogs was released back into the wild.
The trouble was that he had spent most of his life in captivity, and as a result, he had become accustomed to humans bringing him food. The situation was so extreme that he was not able to feed himself.

"Three months after his release, Yulelogs was rescued by the RSPCA after concerned members of the public reported that he was chasing people with buckets on the beach as he believed they contained fish."
When Yulelogs was rescued, he weighed only 132 lbs as opposed to a more healthy weight of 551 lbs. It was clear that he needed care so UK-based animal charity RSPCA requested that the Cornish Seal Sanctuary provide him with a permanent home.
The sanctuary continues:
"He is a very energetic and enthusiastic seal, especially when it comes to his husbandry training and environmental enrichment.
"If you’d like to learn more about Yulelogs and support his care, you can purchase one of our adoption packs from our website."
Since it was uploaded last month, the post has attracted 2,170 likes and 83 comments.
Needless to say, plenty of the comments from followers of The Cornish Seal Sanctuary Instagram account were endearing and heartwarming.
"[Thirty-one!] You don't look a day past 20 Yulelogs! Happy Birthday!!!" one Instagram user commented alongside 2 heart emojis.
"Happy birthday Yulelogs, can't wait to come and see you!!" wrote another well-wisher.
A third user went as far as to describe the creature as the "most handsome seal in the whole wide world!!!!"
Here's hoping Yulelogs had the best of birthdays last month and many more to come!
