I'm sure many wives would be happy to receive a voucher for a spa day or a nice staycation for their birthday - so it comes as a surprise that Alec Baldwin decided that the best gift for wife Hilaria would be to ask his fans to follow her on Instagram.

This comes days after 38-year-old Hilaria called Alec "husband goals," after posting a video of him giving her a massage before the mom and dad of six headed out on a date night, per The International News.

The 64-year-old actor asked his 2.5 million Instagram followers to head over to his wife Hilaria's account and chuck her a follow, in anticipation of her 39th birthday.

In the clip, Alec stated: "Tomorrow is the birthday of my favorite person. May I ask you a favor? I would like to ask you, as a birthday gift or even just a gesture to my wife, would you follow her on Instagram?"

He then continues: "'I would like to ask you a small favor, and that is my wife is just, it seems like she's just centimeters shy of a million followers on Instagram [...] Obviously I love my wife, I'm crazy about my wife, blah, blah, blah - all the things we say about people we're in love with.

"My wife's the most fabulous person I've ever met in my whole life. That's true. That's true. That's definitely true."

"'I would like as many of you as possible, I would like a really great, great surge of people to follow my wife on Instagram to say happy birthday to my wife. Would you do that for me? ... Please. Thanks," the clip ended.

And while there were many commenters happy to oblige...

...there were also many Instagram users who took to the video's comments section to voice their disapproval at the bizarre request.

"I already follow her however wouldn't it mean more to her if we would donate 5 dollars to a Charity maaaaybe a Animal rescue. Or maaaybe feed the homeless? I'm not sure how I feel about this kinda screams selfish to me I would gladly ask for a small donation to feeding Fur babies or any babies for that matter hmmm [sic]," one person wrote.

"No, but I will make a donation to a woman's shelter in her name. Placing importance of million 'Likes' on Instagram seems absurd," another person added.

A third user chimed in, referencing Hilaria's past scandal where she was called out for appropriating Hispanic culture. "how about we all follow her when she drops her cultural appropriation? i’d be first to do so!" the comment read.

The former yoga instructor came under fire for feigning a Spanish accent and not correcting publications that referred to her as being Latina, despite the fact that she was born in Boston to American parents.

It then circulated on social media that, her birth name is - in fact - Hilary, not Hilaria.

She revealed that she was bilingual and spoke both English and Spanish fluently due to a childhood split between Spain and the US. Still, many people accused her of misleading the public about her heritage, per Vox.

Either way, let's all hope she's happy with her birthday followers.
