Buzz Aldrin has announced that he has tied the knot for a fourth time as the celebrations took place on his 93rd birthday.

There are very few things in life that are bigger than getting married - even if you just so happen to be one of the first people to ever walk on the surface of the moon.

Aldrin famously landed on the surface of the moon with Neil Armstrong on July 20, 1969, and - six and a half hours later on July 21 - Aldrin and Armstrong etched their names into the books of human history as they took their first steps out of the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle.

The 93-year-old retired from NASA in 1971 after logging 289 hours and 53 minutes in space, as per the NASA website.

During his time in space, Aldrin was married to Joan Ann Archer who he married in 1954 before their divorce in 1974. He then tied the knot with his second wife Beverly Van Zile in 1975 before the pair separated in 1978, per the Daily Mail.

The ex-astronaut married his third wife Lois Driggs Cannon in 1988 before the pair split in 2012.

Now, on his 93rd birthday, Aldrin has gotten married for a fourth time.

Taking to Twitter, the 93-year-old shared images of himself and his new wife, 63-year-old Dr. Anca Faur, with a heartfelt statement.

He said: "On my 93rd birthday and the day I will also be honored by Living Legends of Aviation I am pleased to announce that my longtime love Dr. Anca Faur & I have tied the knot.

"We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles and are as excited as eloping teenagers."

As the Daily Mail reported, Dr. Faur was Aldrin's longtime girlfriend, and she is listed as the Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC.

In 2002, Aldrin escaped assault charges after a video appeared to show him punching a man who was harassing him about the moon landing being faked, demanding that the former astronaut place his hand on the bible and swear that it wasn't staged.

One key element of the moon landing that fuels conspiracy theorists are that the famous US flag that was placed on the surface of the moon appears to flap, despite the moon having no wind.

This claim has been debunked with NASA themselves responding to the allegation, providing the very simple explanation that the flag could be seen waving about because the astronauts were twisting the flagpole in order to get it deep into the Moon soil.

We wish Aldrin and Dr. Faur our best wishes as they head off into married life!
