Growing up as the child of a celebrity can't be an easy thing to do. But, when your father is the world-famous king of pop, you probably get used to being in the spotlight after a while.

Paris Jackson, the second child and only daughter of the late Michael Jackson, has been in the media for some time now. As a child, her father would often encourage her and her brothers to wear masks when they were out in public. But, as she grew older, she learned to embrace the life of stardom that she was born into.

Now, at just 19 years of age, she's already recognized in her own right as an actress, model, and activist - but being so famous isn't always a good thing.

As well as getting thousands of adoring messages from fans, Jackson also receives a lot of pictures of herself that people have taken or edited. Unfortunately, some people take it upon themselves to lighten her skin in the images. Considering that her father was often criticised and questioned over his skin color and vitiligo, this is obviously a sensitive topic for Jackson, and so she recently took to Twitter in order to ask people to stop doing it.

"i appreciate everything y’all make for me, i enjoy every single edit i see," she said, "but please stop lightening my skin to make me look more white. and please stop darkening my skin to make me look more mixed. i am what i am. i’m aware of what i look like and i finally happy with it."

Here's just one example of what she's talking about:

It's clear to see that the picture has been deliberately edited in an attempt to make Jackson's skin appear several shades lighter - but some fans thought it might have been an accidental side effect of the pictures being brightened too much.

"We all Love you for who you are. I think sometimes its not intentionally done, sometimes after a lot of editing it may or may not affect the skin tone, said one person on Twitter. "But sorry about it. Again we love you for being you and nothing about that will change."

Others, meanwhile, assured Jackson that she was always beautiful in her fan's eyes, and that she didn't need to change a thing.

"Your beautiful the way you were made! Its so sad we live in a society where people have to edit things to satisfy their description of what is acceptable to fit into society or what they think society wants to see. Never change, stand strong! Your Beautiful!"

However, this isn't an isolated incident, and many celebrities have had their skin colours lightened in online images. Rihanna and Beyonce are often targets of such needless editing, which is obviously incredibly offensive considering those pictures are often shared under the pretence that they look "better" than the original.

Kudos to Paris for speaking out about the matter, though, as people need to know that it's not ok.
