The heart-wrenching news of Perry's death surfaced on October 28, 2023, when emergency responders discovered the 54-year-old actor unresponsive at his Los Angeles residence. Authorities arrived at the scene around 4:00PM, revealing that Perry was found in an unresponsive state in a hot tub.

The toxicology report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Perry succumbed to "the acute effects of ketamine."

The actor, best known for his role on the hit sitcom Friends, had been said to be undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety before his passing.

"At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression," the report read.

Drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine were listed as contributing factors. The medical examiner ruled the manner of death as an accident.

Back in May, the LAPD launched an investigation into what led to Perry’s death after the medical examiner's ruling, and just three months later, it has been announced that five people have been charged in connection with Perry's overdose.

Salvador Plascencia, a doctor, was apprehended along with fellow medical professional, Mark Chavez. Perry’s longtime assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, alleged street dealer Erik Fleming, and Jasveen Sangha, the “Ketamine Queen of Los Angeles," have also been charged for their part in the star's death.

Martin Estrada, US Attorney for the central district of California, said in a press conference that they "took advantage" of the actor's substance abuse issues and "knew what they were doing was wrong."

This has been reflected in Plasencia's alleged text message exchange during a conversation with a colleague in which he reportedly referred to Perry as a "moron."

"I wonder how much this moron will pay," he allegedly wrote.

Upon hearing the news, social media users were left devastated at how cruel someone could be to take advantage of a vulnerable person struggling with addiction.

"Quote from the doctor who supplied Ketamine to Matthew Perry; 'I wonder how much this moron will pay' knowing Matthew Perry was an addict and knowing Matthew Perry had relapsed.. horrible humans.. they all need to rot in jail for drug dealing..." wrote one person on X while another added: "We watched Matthew Perry put on a show for us multiple times on Friends whilst he was battling his demons. For doctors to be using his illness for profit, and mocking him for it is vile. Makes me so sad the people who should’ve been trusted to help him ultimately killed him."

So far Chavez, Iwasama, and Fleming have pleaded guilty to charges.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
