Amber Heard's lawyers showed the jury photos of their client's bruised face, alleging at the ongoing trial that the injury was caused by Johnny Depp throwing a phone at her.
Depp, 58, is suing Heard, 36, for defamation after she penned an op-ed for The Washington Post back in 2018, in which she claimed to be a survivor of domestic violence. He says the piece was an obvious reference to their own relationship. The actor denies ever striking his ex-wife.
Yesterday, the famous exes returned to the courthouse in Fairfax County, Virginia, after a more than weeklong break in the trial.
Heard continued her testimony, explaining how her former husband allegedly abused her until their short-lived marriage came to a bitter end.
The Aquaman star told jurors that a friend of hers had taken photos of her face in a number of positions with different lighting all over her home in order to get a more accurate depiction of the swelling and redness around her eye and and on her cheekbone.
Other photos featuring broken glass, spilled wine, and damaged photo frames were also included as evidence in the case. Before the pictures were shown to the jury on Monday, Heard alleged in her testimony that Depp had overheard her calling a friend named iO.
"I pick up the phone and try to apologize for the fact that my husband just screamed at my friend on a cold call. iO said, 'Get out of the house, get out of the house…you're not safe,'" Heard said, per Insider.
She went on to claim that her ex-husband had heard iO's advice and came "bolting" back up the stairs to grab the phone from her and proceeded to scream at her friend on the other end.
"He called iO every imaginable horrible name that you can say to an LGBTQIA person," Heard said on the stand. "Just screamed at iO some really nasty stuff: 'You wanna have my woman now, you wanna have my b****, take her.'"
It was after this outburst, says Heard, that Depp suddenly threw the phone at her, hitting her in the eye.
