Amber Rose has revealed that she has already had the talk about periods and consent with her seven-year-old son.
In an appearance on Red Table Talk on October 20, the 37-year-old model said she did not want to withhold any information about the significance of menstruation and consent from her son Sebastian "Bash" Taylor Thomaz.
Watch the entire episode below:"I’m not hiding nothing from my son [sic]. My son knows what a period is," Rose explained. "He’ll come in the bathroom, and be like, ‘Mommy, do you have your period?'"
Rose also revealed that Bash sometimes offers her pads and tampons even when she isn't on her period.
"Once he hits 13 and the girls in his classroom are getting their periods and the boys are like, ‘That’s disgusting, she’s bleeding,’ he’ll be like, ‘That’s nothing … I knew that since I was 6 years old, dude; get with the program,’" she said.
The body-confident model also stressed the importance of teaching children the importance of consent.
"He’s like, ‘Mom, you’ve got a jiggly butt,’ and he’ll just come behind me and jiggle my butt," Rose said.
She told her fellow panelists that she responds by telling Bash, "That’s my private area, and you don’t touch Mommy’s private area, OK?"
A number of viewers have since taken to social media to praise Rose's approach to parenting.
One Twitter user said, "Also, the fact that amber rose is already teaching her son, at 7 years old, about things periods & keeping hands to himself is respected. It is NEVER too early to teach a boy how to respect a woman."
Facebook user Kathia Vang said, "Such an amazing conversation. My son is 3 & he knows boundaries. He knows private areas. Knows no one can touch his and he can't touch no ones unwantedly [sic]. I also have a 2 yr old daughter [sic] who I'm currently teaching a healthy "no".
Vang continued, "If she doesn't want her brother touching her hair, or her shoulder, etc "tell him no baby" "say you aren't comfortable" etc. We must teach our babies young so we can break the cycle of unwanted sexual interactions/grey areas. I absolutely loved this episode!"
