Comedian and actor Amy Schumer wants to raise her son, Gene, who is 14 months old, to be a feminist, she has revealed in a recent interview.

Schumer also spoke about how her son Gene will grow up learning about the Black Lives Matter movement. Her experience of pregnancy, performing stand-up during that time period and her arrest at a protest ahead of the Supreme Court confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh are documented in new three-part HBO Max show Expecting Amy.

Amy Schumer shared this candid post-surgery video on social media after undergoing an egg retrieval procedure:

Speaking about her son Gene with Yahoo Entertainment in a recent interview, Schumer said;

“I know I want to raise him to be a really strong feminist,” she tells Yahoo Entertainment. “I mean, I was pregnant with him when I got arrested [for protesting ahead of] the Supreme Court confirmation [of Brett Kavanaugh]. He’s gone to some protests with me here.”

Earlier this year, the comedian and actor hilariously revealed that she had decided to change her son's name after realizing it sounded like 'genital'.

The Trainwreck and I Feel Pretty actor informed her fans of the change on her podcast, Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls 1 Keith.

She said: "So do you guys know that Gene, our baby's name is officially changed?

"It's now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer but we realized that we, by accident, named our son, 'genital'."

Schumer has also previously spoken out about her struggles with IVF. She wrote on Instagram, "Feeling really run down and emotional," she captioned the post. "If anyone went through it and if you have any advice or wouldn’t mind sharing your experience with me please do. My number is in my bio. We are freezing my eggs and figuring out what to do to give Gene a sibling."

Expecting Amy shows Schumer performing stand up sets and sometimes throwing up immediately afterwards, and also depicts her reaction to the news that she is expecting a child.

Expecting Amy premieres July 9 on HBO Max.
