Amy Schumer has confessed to officially changing her baby boy's name after coming to the realization that it sounded like "genital".

The comic gave birth to her first child, Gene Attell Fischer, in May last year - so her son, whom she shares with her husband Chris Fischer, is nearly a year old. This means the infant wouldn't have had any time to get used to the name - and will just have to rely on anecdotes from his parents about his former rude-ish middle name.

In case, you hadn't already caught on - Gene Attell sounds a little bit like "genital".

Amy Schumer shared this candid post-surgery video on social media after undergoing an egg retrieval procedure:

Anyway, the Trainwreck and I Feel Pretty actress informed her fans of the change on her podcast, Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls 1 Keith.

She said: "So do you guys know that Gene, our baby's name is officially changed?

"It's now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer but we realized that we, by accident, named our son, 'genital'."

It was first pointed out by fellow comedian and actor Claudia O’Doherty when she was a guest on Schumer's podcast.

O’Doherty said: "My mom pointed that out to me actually. My mom was like, 'Amy's called her son genital.'"

And I was like, "What are you talking about?' And then, she was right."

The thing is, baby Gene's former middle name Attell was intended as a tribute to Dave Attell - a comedian friend of Schumer and Fischer. But it all turned out for the best because by changing her son's name from Attell to David, she was still honoring her pal. Plus David is also the middle name of Schumer's father.
