Fans were left heartbroken when it emerged on Saturday night that Cameron Boyce had sadly passed away at the age of 20.

The actor, who was best known for his role on Disney's Jessie and for playing Carlos de Vil in the Descendants film series, died as a result of an "ongoing medical condition".

In fact, in his very last interview before his death, Boyce spoke about his desire to 'follow in the footsteps' of his family in terms of their activism and philanthropy.

"There's a long line of difference makers in my family," he told Haute Living. "I’m following in the footsteps of some really strong men and women who have showed me what it means to give back; It’s the greatest way to fulfil yourself."

He added: "Every time I talk to someone who shares that similar passion, we talk about how there aren’t many feelings more euphoric. Changing someone else’s life positively changes yours for the better as well."

"Many people have the heart to give back, but a lot don't know how to," Boyce continued. "I try to be the bridge for those people - whether that means getting them involved in one of my campaigns or inspiring them by showing them a blueprint of how to get others engaged."

On the evening of Saturday 6 July, a spokesperson representing the Boyce family stated:

"It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron. He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him."

"We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother," they added.

A spokesperson for Disney also released a statement in response to the young star's tragic death:

"From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples’ lives through his humanitarian work."

"He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, castmates and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed."
