One upon a time, Cameron Diaz was one of the most famous celebrities working in Hollywood. Star of films like The Mask, Shrek and There's Something About Mary, she was beloved by fans. Yet over the last five years, after marrying musician Benji Madden, Diaz has intentionally avoided the limelight, and has more-or-less retired from acting.

Many people wondered why. Was Cameron feeling alright? Had something negatively affected her career? Or was she simply tired of acting? Well, in a recent interview with Instyle, Diaz stated that - far from missing fame - she's actually quite happy with obscurity, and is enjoying married life and independence.

Commenting on her life situation, Diaz stated: "I started [experiencing fame] when I was 22, so 25 years ago — that's a long time. The way I look at it is that I've given more than half of my life to the public. I feel it's OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganise and choose how I want to come [back] into the world."

She continued: "I don't miss performing. Right now I'm looking at the landscape of wellness and all that," added the now-health book author. "But whatever I do, it has to be something I'm passionate about — something that just feels effortless."

"Getting married to [Benji] was the best thing that ever happened to me. My husband's the best. He's the greatest human being, and he's my great partner. Marriage is certainly hard, and it's a lot of work. You need somebody who's willing to do the work with you because there's no 60-40 in marriage. It's 50-50, period. All the time," the 46-year-old added.

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden tied the knot in her home in Beverly Hills, California, on January 5, 2015, in a Jewish ceremony. Although it's a shame we'll miss out on her performances, it's good to know that she's content.
