Over the past few months, Carrie Underwood's face has been the subject on many people's lips. After posting that she now looked "a bit different" following a traumatic fall that left her with 40 stitches and a broken wrist, speculation was rife about how different exactly the beautiful singer was going to look.

"It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life." the Grammy Award-winner wrote in a post to her fan club. "In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike [her husband] that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in. I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different. I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up."

However, after taking some time away from the spotlight to heal and spend time with her family, Carrie returned to the public eye looking better than ever before. And now, roughly six months after her freak accident, the country singer has hit the red carpet of the CMT Awards, the first red carpet she has walked since her accident.

Wearing a short yellow dress with a plunging neckline, the American Idol winner looked positively radiant. She was joined by her husband Mike Fisher, the former NHL star who she tied the knot with in 2010.

On the night, Mike gave his wife a well-deserved kiss and a hug when she won the award for CMT Female Video of the Year for her collaboration with Ludacris on The Champion. A well-deserved trophy after a tough year, you could say.

In her acceptance speech, the “Jesus Take the Wheel” singer thanked CMT and the thousands of fans who voted for her, saying: "Thank you God for all of us who are lucky enough who sit over here that we get to do what we get to do. And thank God for you guys—the fans. You guys really are the reason that we get to do what we do. Whoever went and voted for anybody, just thank you for taking the time. It means everything."

Although the Before He Cheats singer initially kept schtum on how exactly her accident had gone down, she opened up in April. Speaking on iHeartRadio's The Bobby Bones Show last Thursday, she explained: "I was taking the dogs out to go pee one last time, and I just—I tripped," she said. "There was one step, and I didn’t let go of the leashes! Priorities! So that’s why my left hand’s fine. But I went to catch myself and I just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else, I would have been perfectly fine. But it was one step that messed everything up."

It's fantastic to see Carrie out and about and looking confident again. She proves that when life knocks you down, you just have to get back up again.
