Chris Brown has seemingly responded to Selena Gomez's "disgusted" reaction to his 2023 MTV Video Music Awards nomination.

The 31-year-old singer and actress attended the Video Music Awards on Tuesday night (September 12) as she was nominated alongside Rema for their chart-topping song 'Calm Down'.

The hit tune - which is the first Afrobeats song to break a billion streams on Spotify - was up for three awards including Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Best Afrobeats.

The pair ended up winning a coveted Moon Man award for Best Afrobeats.

However, what caught fans' attention was Gomez appearing to sneer at the 34-year-old R&B crooner's name being called out as a nominee for his feature on the song 'How Does It Feel' with Chlöe Bailey.

As the nominees for Best R&B were read out, cameras on The Only Murders In The Building actress showed her scrunching her nose at the same time Brown’s name was read.

The Moon Man award was ultimately awarded to singer SZA for her song 'Shirt,' helping to avoid any more awkward encounters on social media.

But, this also prompted another disappointed look from the 'Good For You' hitmaker who appeared unhappy that the songstress wasn't at the show to accept her award in person.

Check out her reaction:

Viewers flocked to social media to comment on Gomez’s disapproved expression, with one supportive fan writing on X: "She represents all of us," while another user said: "Gonna go buy another Rare Beauty blush just cuz she’s so mother for this."

A third remarked: "Oh I love her so much I WILL NEVER MENTION HER BADLY EVER AGAIN OH MOTHER," while a fourth penned: "F**king finally a woman in the industry not pushing for his 'reformed' image."

However, some people were not pleased with her as one user stated: "If someone did this to her 'let’s all be nice to each other guys' ewww she’s one of them," and another declared: "That's disrespectful. Have a little respect when you're not home."

The 'Don't Judge Me' musician - who has been at the center of controversy for many years - has now apparently waded into the debate as Rap-Up reported that he shared a now-deleted Instagram Story where he wrote: "I’m the GOAT, and you know it" as well as: "Let me mind my business".

Despite all the commotion towards her viral reaction, the 'Same Old Love' songstress was seemingly unbothered as she commented: "Who cares lol" under an Instagram clip of the moment.

However, she was clearly ticked off about becoming a big talking point at the VMAs as she took to her Instagram to state: "I'll never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love."

The 'Love You Like A Love Song' artist also went viral at the music ceremony for her reaction to Oliva Rodrigo's set 'falling apart' during her performance of 'Vampire'.

The 20-year-old star was seen sitting on the ground surrounded by foliage in a red bra and matching skirt. As the song went on, pyrotechnics and smoke started to fall from the ceiling which apparently startled the 'Drivers License' hitmaker, but she still continued to sing along.

Seconds later, fake trees and a red drape fell from the stage, which led to a floor manager rushing over to Rodrigo and quickly ushering her off the stage.

The audience got noticeably quiet during the awkward moment as the camera panned toward stars like Gomez, Chase Stokes, and Kelsea Ballerini, who were all caught looking very wide-eyed.

While the disruption seemed to worry Gomez, a clip of the reaction made rounds on social media, with one user alleging that Rodrigo "really traumatized" the Wizards of Waverly Place star.
