Selena Gomez has gone viral after fans noticed her disgusted reaction to Chris Brown's name being announced during the 2023 VMAs.
The 31-year-old singer-actress stunned at the Video Music Awards on Tuesday night (September 12) in a halter-neck red Oscar de la Renta gown with a floral pattern.
She was nominated for three awards at the major event, including Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Best Afrobeats for her hit feature song 'Calm Down' with Rema.
However, what caught fans' attention was her shady sneer at the controversial 34-year-old musician's name being called out as a nominee for his feature song 'How Does It Feel' with Chlöe Bailey.
As the nominees for Best R&B were read out, cameras on The Only Murders In The Building actress showed her scrunching her nose at the same time Brown’s name was read.
Check out her reaction:
Many of the Selenators were supportive of her unimpressed reaction, as one person said: "Gonna go buy another Rare Beauty blush just cuz she’s so mother for this."
Another user remarked: "Oh I love her so much I WILL NEVER MENTION HER BADLY EVER AGAIN OH MOTHER."
A third chimed in: "She’s so real! I love Selena," while a fourth added: "F**king finally a woman in the industry not pushing for his 'reformed' image."
The Moon Man award was awarded to SZA for her song 'Shirt,' helping to avoid any more awkward encounters on social media.
However, this prompted another disappointed look from the 'Love You Like A Love Song' hitmaker who appeared unhappy that the songstress wasn't at the show to accept her award in person.
While there's no confirmation for why Gomez reacted like this to the R&B crooner's name, it could be due to the fact that he is often the center of controversy and has faced several assault accusations from women over the years.
Back in 2009, Brown admitted to physically assaulting Rihanna on the night of the Grammy Awards, leaving her battered.
Following the incident, he was quickly made an outcast in the entertainment industry as he was banned from award shows and celebrity parties. In addition to this, the British leg of his European tour was canceled in 2010 after he was denied a visa to the UK.
The violent ordeal saw the 'Don't Wake Me Up' singer put on probation for five years and sentenced to six months of community service. He was also instructed to stay at least 50 yards away from the 'Diamonds' star.
The 35-year-old songstress - who recently welcomed a second child with partner A$AP Rocky - spoke about her relationship with Brown after the devastating incident.
Speaking on Oprah Winfrey’s Supersoul Conversations podcast in 2012, Rihanna said: "We've been working on our friendship again. Now we're very very close friends."
"We've built up a trust again, and that's - we love each other and we probably always will. And that's not something we're ever going to change. That's not something you can shut off if you've ever been in love," she continued.
"I think he was the love of my life. He was my first love. And I see that he loved me the same way... It's not even about us being together. I truly love him. So the main thing for me is that he's at peace. I'm not at peace if he's a little unhappy, or he's still lonely," she added.
