Chuck Norris has been forced to deny that he was in attendance at last week's Capitol riots after a photograph of a lookalike at the event began to trend online.

A man who strongly resembled the 80-year-old actor appeared to be smiling in pictures with Trump supporters at the riot, causing a great deal of confusion online with some people believing that the movie legend really did attend the protest.

Remarking on the lookalike, one Twitter user wrote: "bruh idk why people are saying chuck norris was at the riot, like i can see the resemblance but it’s just not him [sic]."

However, others were more convinced with one writing: "Wait. Chuck Norris was at the riot? The f*ck? Why?"

Norris is a Republican supporter and a Christian who also believes in gun rights, the Daily Mail reports, and therefore the suggestion that he was at the protest was not outwith the realm of possibility for some people.

The actor rose to fame in the 80s for his role in the Bruce Lee movie Way of the Dragon and went on to become an action movie stalwart in a number of films including Delta Force.

His manager Erik Kritzer confirmed that the man in the picture was not the actor yesterday, the news outlet added.

Kritzer said: "Chuck remains on his range in Texas where he has been with his family."

The actor and material arts artist also took to his own Facebook page to explain that he wasn't a part of the riots, too.

In a post uploaded to the social media website yesterday, Chuck said: "It has come to my attention that unfortunately there was a Chuck Norris lookalike at the DC Capitol riots on January 6th. It wasn't me and I wasn't there.

"Let me be clear that there is no room for violence of any kind in our society, including in the context of political protests and that a peaceful transition of power is fundamental to our democratic system of government.

"I am and always will be for Law and Order."

The Capitol was attacked last Wednesday as lawmakers met to officially certify Joe Biden's victory.
