As Kit Harington re-enters the limelight with HBO’s reboot of Harry Potter, rumors have surfaced about a controversial chapter in his life that could threaten his relationship with Game of Thrones co-star Rose Leslie.
Although the new series, based on the books by J.K. Rowling, is shrouded in controversy, facing criticism and boycott calls from fans over the author’s unpopular opinion on transgender issues, Kit has been cast as Professor Gilderoy Lockhart.
In the wake of the announcement, the star made a very personal confession about his drinking problem and how important the Harry Potter franchise was to his sobriety journey.
In a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kit explained, “My brain is incredibly busy, especially at night, and I’ve always found going to bed very difficult, and my brain doesn’t turn off.
“When I got sober, that got especially bad. So I started listening to Harry Potter audiobooks, and now they’re the thing I listen to every night.”
The sweet revelation encouraged people online to trawl through other damaging chapters of Kit’s past, including cheating allegations.
Shortly after his 2018 wedding to GOT co-star Rose Leslie, allegations emerged that Kit had been having a nine-month-long affair with a Russian model that overlapped with his engagement to Rosie.
At the time, Olga Vlasova, who claimed she met Kit in Luxembourg, shared pictures which allegedly showed Harington lying unclothed on a bed, asleep beside a laptop.
The alleged picture of the actor went viral within hours, and the actor’s representative swiftly responded with a firm denial.
They told E! News at the time, “The allegations in this story are completely false. He’s never even been to Luxembourg nor has he ever met Olga Vlasova.”
Rosie and Kit met playing on-screen lovers on Game of Thrones, and fiction soon turned to reality. The couple got engaged in 2017 and married the next year.
Since the reported scandal and welcoming a son in 2021, then a daughter in 2023, Kit and Rosie have kept their young family out of the limelight.
It was later revealed that after GOT wrapped in 2019, he entered treatment for alcohol addiction.
