Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks, eating far too much food, and spending time with family. No matter who you are, it's natural to want to gather the family together for a group picture and share it on social media.
That's exactly what 47-year-old actress Gabrielle Union did with her family. Posing on their staircase in their California mansion, Gabrielle was joined by husband Dwyane Wade, their one-year-old daughter Kaavia, and Wade's 12-year-old son Zion, whom he shares with a former partner.
She captioned the wonderful picture: "Grateful. Happy Thanksgiving good people. To all the friends and family that have my back and all the friends and family I've never met who show love and support when everyone is looking and when no one is looking...All praise, gratitude and thankfulness"
However, several trolls felt the need to attack Zion due to the fact he was wearing a crop top and sporting long and pointy false nails (and absolutely slaying).
One ignorant commenter wrote: "Please...don't let that boy dress up like a whole woman. What is with our men and being feminine and now our people are condoning this. I have 2 girls I just took shopping and those are little girl clothes on this boy, along with the Dr. Martens...c'mon Wade Family. [sic]"Check out Gabrielle and Zion at Miami Pride:
Another said: "So y’all really saying this is cool? Like for real????????? Wtf not my Son ain’t no way!!!! [sic]"
A third wrote: "So I’m trying to figure out why Black Woman and Their men are allowing that young man to dress like a girl. Men have lost their backbone and this is unacceptable child abuse. These celebrities will have to answer to God soon enough for this recklessness [sic]"
A fourth person simply wrote: "Horrible what you and @dwyanewade are doing to that boy"
Fortunately, Dwayne Wade took to Twitter to shut down the cruel comments. The former NBA star wrote:
"As a parent my only goal is that my kids feel that i see them , love them and support them.
"I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is apart of this world we live in—so i get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile! [sic]."
Dwyane, 37, has been publicly supportive of his son over the past couple of years and Gabrielle joined the Zion at Miami Pride this summer. Speaking to Variety, the loving father said about his son attending the LGBTQ+ celebration:
"I don’t really talk about it much because it’s Zion’s story to tell. I think as a family, we should support each other. That’s our job. And my job as a father is to facilitate their lives and to support them and be behind them in whatever they want to do."Related - The cast of 'Bring It On' discuss the movie's success
