Emily Ratajkowski has shared new details about the end of her marriage to Sebastian Bear-McClard, revealing that the couple stopped being intimate just six months after welcoming their son, Sylvester.
In an essay for 'The Cut', accompanied by a photoshoot that featured her breastfeeding a doll, the 35-year-old model reflected on the challenges of early motherhood and how it impacted her relationship.
After giving birth in 2021, the model described entering what she called "a violent transition into a new reality of screaming baby on my aching tit and ring on my swollen finger."
She said her marriage gradually unraveled during a period that "felt both instant and excruciatingly slow."
The model revealed that intimacy disappeared from the relationship shortly after becoming parents.
"Six months after my son was born, my husband and I stopped having sex," she wrote. "Less than a year later, we separated."
Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard officially split four years ago, after four-and-a-half years of marriage. She filed for divorce two months later.
Around the time of the breakup, reports surfaced alleging that the filmmaker had been unfaithful.
One source claimed: "He's a serial cheater. It's gross. He's a dog."
The following year, Bear-McClard was accused of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior involving teenage girls in a Variety investigation. He has not publicly responded to those allegations.
Looking back on the aftermath of her divorce, Ratajkowski said she struggled with how others perceived and viewed her.
"Their furrowed brows, the pity in their faces as they delivered an 'I'm so sorry, Emily,'" she recalled.
She added: "I couldn't stand my pathetic reflection in their eyes. They saw me as someone who was unwanted, who had been left."
The model also reflected on how she once feared becoming a single mother.
As a child, she believed it was "crucial" to avoid that outcome because she saw the label as "an insult."
"I’d learned the hard way that being alone was better than most partnerships. I’d seen too much, discovered what many women do only when they get divorced in their mid-40s. I’d lived through the failure of a unit, yet I was barely into my 30s. This was my villain origin story," she shared.

Emily Ratajkowski has opened up on the reasons for her divorce from Sebastian Bear-McClard in a heartbreaking new interview.
The model, 32, married the film producer in February 2018 in a courthouse in New York after having dated for just two weeks.
They welcomed their son, Sylvester, in March 2021, but split in July 2022 after allegations Sebastian had cheated on her.
Emily has now shared a heartbreaking account of why she ended up filing for divorce, after finding that her marriage had slowly changed her.
Speaking to author Sarah Manguso for Vogue, Emily revealed that while she'd initially viewed marriage as a "romantic thing" that would "ultimately be a partnership", she found the reality to be very different after she gave birth to their son.
She revealed: "I never cooked, and suddenly I was not just cooking, but also being the breadwinner, while simultaneously organizing our social schedule and being the primary caretaker of our child."

Emily admitted that she never wanted to marry "someone who needed me to feel small", adding: "And yet, by the end of my marriage … my world was suddenly extremely small and less important, less valuable."
Explaining how things ended up changing, she revealed: "It was a slow devolution from 'Oh, we’re partners, and this person respects all that I’m doing', to feeling like a possession."
She also admitted that she is "still reeling" from having to "really watch" how she behaved and "control my responses" during divorce proceedings where she sought sole custody of Sylvester, due to women often being unfairly labelled "crazy" for having emotional responses.
She added: "Making people question their reality is a fundamental pillar of abuse, physical or emotional. We don’t spend enough time talking about that.
"Betrayal trauma absolutely falls under that umbrella, because you think you have one reality and someone has gone to great lengths to assure you that you exist in this reality and that you’re ultimately safe, and then you discover that you are not."
Emily also admitted that she felt like she "can't trust anyone", explaining: "There is a lot of talk about men, cheaters, lying. It is a terrifying thought, if you’re a hetero woman, because you feel like you can’t trust anyone.
"You might not be able to control other people or what’s going on culturally with heterosexual relationships or how men are raised and how they think of women, but you can change the way you think about marriage and what you’re owed and what life is for.
"That was something that definitely came to me out of my divorce. I have this new appreciation of time, and every second feels like a gift."
She also admitted that the "Disney fairytale" she once wanted of "being chosen and building a life while being desirable to one man and keeping a man" has since changed, and isn;t something she finds "interesting anymore", adding: "It’s opened so much space up in my life in so many incredible ways."
It comes after Emily revealed earlier in the year that she'd had her former engagement ring remodeled into a pair of "divorce rings" by the jeweler Alison Chemla.
She said at the time: "It was a fun project to work on together amidst a hugely transitional period in my life. The ring became symbolic to me – some kind of token or evidence of my life becoming my own again.
"It’s been a crazy couple of years, and finally I feel a sense of peace within myself and about the life and future I have and will continue to build with my son."
Emily added: "Somehow, these rings feel like a reminder that I can make myself happy in ways I never imagined."

At least, that's what it looks like in a recent TikTok video, in which the model appears to have come out as bisexual.
In the clip, the 31-year-old responded to another TikTok in which a user asked: "If you identify as bisexual, do you own a green velvet couch?"

The images, which were shared on the model's Instagram and already have 1.2 million likes, seemed to cause an issue among many of her followers - who said the images were inappropriate.
One user commented: "Why on earth [are you] taking pictures with your naked son... What do you do just for 'likes' and attention..."
While another wrote: "Since when is it normal to put intimate naked pictures of children into the internet. Creeps don't need darknet anymore nowadays..."

The 31-year-old model is no stranger to critiques on her appearance. In fact, Ratajkowski wrote a book of essays - which subsequently became a New York Times bestseller - that focuses on society's fetishization of girls and female beauty.
In it, she writes: "We are more than just our bodies, but that doesn't mean we should be shamed for them or our sexuality."
The book, called My Body, received some criticism on how Ratajkowski doesn't seem to offer women any solutions to the patriarchal structures that force women to be seen as objects of desire.
The model spoke about this in a 2021 interview with VICE, saying: "I actually really wasn't expecting those criticisms, partly just because I feel very connected to a kind of younger version of feminism, like what I see on TikTok and Instagram and Twitter."
"Criticizing women for wearing make-up and for posting sexy pictures – I just felt like we had moved past that, and that everyone had realised that it's not beneficial to slut shame women for the way they might appeal to patriarchal ideas and standards," she added.
