Emily Ratajkowski has shared new details about the end of her marriage to Sebastian Bear-McClard, revealing that the couple stopped being intimate just six months after welcoming their son, Sylvester.
In an essay for 'The Cut', accompanied by a photoshoot that featured her breastfeeding a doll, the 35-year-old model reflected on the challenges of early motherhood and how it impacted her relationship.
After giving birth in 2021, the model described entering what she called "a violent transition into a new reality of screaming baby on my aching tit and ring on my swollen finger."
She said her marriage gradually unraveled during a period that "felt both instant and excruciatingly slow."
The model revealed that intimacy disappeared from the relationship shortly after becoming parents.
"Six months after my son was born, my husband and I stopped having sex," she wrote. "Less than a year later, we separated."
Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard officially split four years ago, after four-and-a-half years of marriage. She filed for divorce two months later.
Around the time of the breakup, reports surfaced alleging that the filmmaker had been unfaithful.
One source claimed: "He's a serial cheater. It's gross. He's a dog."
The following year, Bear-McClard was accused of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior involving teenage girls in a Variety investigation. He has not publicly responded to those allegations.
Looking back on the aftermath of her divorce, Ratajkowski said she struggled with how others perceived and viewed her.
"Their furrowed brows, the pity in their faces as they delivered an 'I'm so sorry, Emily,'" she recalled.
She added: "I couldn't stand my pathetic reflection in their eyes. They saw me as someone who was unwanted, who had been left."
The model also reflected on how she once feared becoming a single mother.
As a child, she believed it was "crucial" to avoid that outcome because she saw the label as "an insult."
"I’d learned the hard way that being alone was better than most partnerships. I’d seen too much, discovered what many women do only when they get divorced in their mid-40s. I’d lived through the failure of a unit, yet I was barely into my 30s. This was my villain origin story," she shared.

Emily Ratajkowski and Sebastian Bear-McClard are going their separate ways after four years.
According to People, a source close to the 31-year-old model, actress, and author revealed that she ended the marriage with Bear-McClard, 41, and just wants to focus on her son.
"They split recently. It was Em's decision. She is doing okay. She is strong and focused on her son. She loves being a mom," the insider confirmed.
As reported by Page Six, speculation on Ratajkowski's possible divorce began after she was seen without her wedding ring in Instagram posts and while running errands.
Another close source also revealed to the outlet that the filmmaker allegedly cheated on Ratajkowski, however, she didn't file for divorce yet.
“Yeah, he cheated,” the source alleged. “He’s a serial cheater. It’s gross. He’s a dog.”
The couple was first linked romantically in 2018 after they were spotted together on Valentine's Day. After only dating for a few weeks, they wed in a secret ceremony in New York.
In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon after their wedding, the Gone Girl actress told the host about Bear-McClard's nontraditional proposal, which she initially rejected.
"He proposed to me at Minetta Tavern and he didn't have a ring, so I was like mmm, nah," she said. "And then he took the paper clip that the bill was paid with and made me a ring, which I actually thought was really romantic."
The model shared a picture about her marriage on Instagram, writing "NYC" with two ring emojis in the caption. In the photo, Bear-McClard is hugging Ratajkowski.
After comments about her early marriage, in an appearance on Busy Tonight later that year, Ratajkowski disclosed that she had been friends with Bear-McClard for a while before getting together.
"We knew each other for a long time before and he likes to joke 'yeah everyone thinks we got married quickly, but you vetted me for two years,'" she said.
In March 2021, the couple welcomed their first baby together, Sylvester Apollo, after announcing in a Vogue video directed by Lena Dunham that Ratajkowski was pregnant.
The actress said she and her husband did not want to know the gender of their baby because it would be up to the child to decide how they identify.
"We like to respond that we won’t know the gender until our child is 18 and that they’ll let us know then," she wrote in an essay for Vogue magazine.

Emily Ratajkowski appears to have subtly responded to reports that her husband cheated on her.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that the 31-year-old model was divorcing her film producer husband Sebastian Bear-McClard.
Since news of their split, rumors have swirled that Bear-McClard's infidelity is the reason the pair are going their separate ways.
A source close to the couple told Page Six that Bear-McClard had cheated on his wife of four years multiple times, saying: "Yeah, he cheated. He's a serial cheater. It's gross. He's a dog."
Though Ratajkowski has not released an official statement about her divorce, it looks like she is letting her Twitter activity do the talking for her.
Many people think the model subtly confirmed reports of her husband's cheating by liking tweets about the rumor on Twitter.
On tweet that she hearted read: "Can’t believe that little b**** cheated on emrata."
Another tweet read: "Girls, how are we celebrating Emrata’s divorce."
"Emrata finally free from that man just proves that god is actually very real," stated a third.

It looks like Emily Ratajkowski has just stepped out of the closet.
The supermodel and author is currently embroiled in a high-profile divorce from her estranged husband Sebastian Bear-McClard, with whom she shares a one-year-old son Sylvester Apollo Bear.
However, the media storm around her failed marriage hasn't stopped Em Rata from speaking out proudly about her own sexual identity.
At least, that's what it looks like in a recent TikTok video, in which the model appears to have come out as bisexual.
In the clip, the 31-year-old responded to another TikTok in which a user asked: "If you identify as bisexual, do you own a green velvet couch?"
Watch the video here:In response, Ratajkowski held her camera up to show that she was sitting comfortably on her very own green velvet couch.
Unsurprisingly, the clip has taken TikTok by storm, racking up over 1.2 million views since it was posted yesterday (Monday, October 11).
Meanwhile, hundreds of people have taken to the comments section to celebrate the news.
"Yet another win for the ladies," one wrote. Another commented: "WIN FOR THE GIRLS!!
"Congratulations on coming out. So proud of you and for you," added a third.
It is unknown whether Ratajkowski has ever been romantically involved with a woman. However, that could all change soon. With her divorce proceedings in full swing, it won't be long until the model is officially single.
A source close to the couple told Page Six that Bear-McClard had cheated on his wife of four years multiple times, saying: "Yeah, he cheated. He's a serial cheater. It's gross. He's a dog."
Although the My Body author has not yet officially commented on her divorce, she has liked several tweets alleging that her former husband was unfaithful in their marriage.
Em Rata isn't the first female celeb to come out via TikTok this week. On Sunday, the Queen of Pop herself Madonna almost broke the internet when she shared a cryptic video in which she appeared to declare that she is gay.
Watch Madonna appear to come out as gay:In the clip, the 'Like A Virgin' singer appears on screen with bright pink hair alongside the caption "If I miss, I'm Gay!". The 64-year-old goes on to toss a pair of pink panties into a trashcan - and misses.

Emily Ratajkowski accidentally caused a stir online after posting images of her laying in a bath nude with her one-year-old son.
The images, which were shared on the model's Instagram and already have 1.2 million likes, seemed to cause an issue among many of her followers - who said the images were inappropriate.
One user commented: "Why on earth [are you] taking pictures with your naked son... What do you do just for 'likes' and attention..."
While another wrote: "Since when is it normal to put intimate naked pictures of children into the internet. Creeps don't need darknet anymore nowadays..."
"How on earth does she manage to sexualize bathing with [your] child. Or better yet why do we have to see it!?" a third added.
"Putting a photo of your naked toddler son in a tub on the internet for all kinds of weirdos to see… [shaking my head]," another user had commented underneath the post.
Despite the negativity, many of the mom-of-one's 29 million followers complimented her on the images, including fellow model, Elsa Hosk, and Queer Eye star, Tan France.
Ratajkowski shares her son, named Sylvester, with ex-husband, Sebastian Bear-McClard - she filed for divorce earlier this year after allegations of the movie producer's affairs rocked their marriage, Page Six reported.
The former couple were married at a courthouse in 2018, just one week after publicly announcing their relationship. Sylvester was born in March 2021.
The 31-year-old model is no stranger to critiques on her appearance. In fact, Ratajkowski wrote a book of essays - which subsequently became a New York Times bestseller - that focuses on society's fetishization of girls and female beauty.
In it, she writes: "We are more than just our bodies, but that doesn't mean we should be shamed for them or our sexuality."
The book, called My Body, received some criticism on how Ratajkowski doesn't seem to offer women any solutions to the patriarchal structures that force women to be seen as objects of desire.
The model spoke about this in a 2021 interview with VICE, saying: "I actually really wasn't expecting those criticisms, partly just because I feel very connected to a kind of younger version of feminism, like what I see on TikTok and Instagram and Twitter."
"Criticizing women for wearing make-up and for posting sexy pictures – I just felt like we had moved past that, and that everyone had realised that it's not beneficial to slut shame women for the way they might appeal to patriarchal ideas and standards," she added.
