I'm not particularly enamored with awards shows. While they offer the chance for brilliant artists in entertainment fields the recognition they deserve, all too often the usual suspects are marched out to grab their 10th award and the already-successful get a pat on the back.
However, as these ceremonies have become televised and posted on YouTube, Twitter and streaming platforms, they become viral events too. That means you can have amazing performances by the world's best musicians at shows like The BRIT Awards.
At the 2018 edition of this ceremony there were some incredible moments, including Stormzy's performance, in which the Grime artist took aim at the UK government and their treatment of the victims and survivors of the Grenfell tragedy.
However, there were some more ridiculous moments that happened at the event that have caused a furor on social media. Amidst rumors that their relationship might be on the rocks, host Jack Whitehall sat with Liam Payne and Cheryl to talk about his recent song.
Seeing as Liam would be performing his track from the 50 Shades Freed soundtrack that evening, the comedian cheekily asked him what the couples safe word was. In a quick-witted remark, Cheryl answered: "Don't stop". As you can imagine, this was a dynamite comment for many fans of the couple.
But even though this comment raised a few eyebrows, the internet became obsessed with something happening in the background. Bassist Este Haim was having her own game with the camera as she sat behind the couple when they were being interviewed, and her hilarious antics has Twitter obsessed.
The video-bombing may be familiar to those of us who have done similar things during our friends' Snapchat stories over the years, but it's rare to see this kind of thing among the rich and famous.
Being part of a larger ensemble, Este wasn't recognized by everyone, leading to some reporting her as a random "drunk woman" in the background. When she saw this, she set is straight on her Twitter, writing that she was "just living my truth".
Then early on Thursday morning, Este cleared this up when she joined Nick Grimshaw on his Radio 1 breakfast show. She even phoned Cheryl live on air, leaving a message on her voicemail to make it clear that there was "no beef" between them, even inviting the pop singer to HAIM's upcoming summer concert at Alexandra Palace.
Her band co-hosted the post-Brit Awards show with Nick, with both of them having a weird end to the evening. Este ended up having a Domino's pizza party, ordering 20 boxes arriving at 7:30am that morning. Meanwhile, the radio DJ confessed he hadn't even been to bed, instead spending the early hours watching Location, Location, Location and eating pasta.
If we're honest, I think there's a lot of us who would have acted similarly if we were making it big and attending something like the BRIT Awards.
